Just how good is the Airport Express

I'm thinking about buy this as a house gift for Christmas...

We have a nice in-house network that is connected via ethernet - no problems whatsoever.

If I plug an Airport Express into our hub then our laptop will be able to be used wirelessly AND still connect to the other computers? Also, since the other machines are not enabled for wireless, will the laptop still be able to print via our network (print sharing is enabled and the printer is hooked up to an older G4).

In a house made of brick (European), how well will the Airport Express deal going through two floors? Are people happy with the quality of reception of these things?

I have an airport express for sending music to my stereo and am very happy with it. The stereo is down stairs and my ibook is usually upstairs in a brick & wood house. Sometimes I have troubel "finding" my express - and it occasionally needs some love ( resetting it tpye of thing) but it works well! I am anxious to connect a printer so I can print across it too. if you just want good internet wifi wireless conection, then a linksys or some other good wifi router would do fine. airport extreme is not worth the price if you only want multiple connections wirelessly to the internet

do explain this wt thing....and the firmware....i hve one of these in addition to my extreme..and it works great for printing, too. maybe just an extreme is what he needs if he doesnt need the air-music ?

Just for the love of god, Dont buy BELKIN. Their wireless router/access point is utter ****. I bought one, it died. Belkin replaced - the new one died the same day - Belkin replaced - 4 Days later that one died.

The wireless signal just gives up the ghost for no reason.

Got sick of it and replaced with a Linkys and had no trouble ever since, and improved signal.

I got a Belkin 812.11g for my parents house. Works like a charm. Good price too ($15 after rebates). Sorry you've had bad experiences.

In my old TH (last year till this Spring) I used Airport Express's to extend the range of my cable modem. It worked well for that. This past Spring I went with a Linksys G router because in my apartment, the original cable modem and Airport Express set up did not seem to deal well with the 10+ signals from various wireless setups in my community.

I have yet had the time to try and get the Airport Express setup to work with my Linksys router. How ever I still use it to do iTunes wirelessly (as long as I don't need to be on the net).

I have a Belkin F5D7231-4 that I've had for 6 months. I've had no problems and I have a XP desktop and an iBook connected. As far as routers go, I would look outside Apple for better choices and prices.

what ever you do get a switch instead of a hub. hub are only half-duplex and switches are full.
