Just installed 2gigs and 9800PRO

I had the PowerMac 2ghz G5 Dual Processor computer and just got 2gigs of RAM from newegg. So I now have 2.5 total, the most I've ever had in any system, pc or mac. Then I received my 9800 Pro for just $110 today and installed that sucker to replace my 5200 gpu.

Man am I happy. The thing just flys right now. Before, when I tried to run even more than 2 apps, the computer was struggling, now, no pageouts, nothing. The machine runs very good

And 1080p is a breeze right now

Congrats! That 5200 is a crime against computing! Darn shame Apple shipped computers with those in them.

I did much like you, putting in a 9800 for a few months, then I bit the bullet and got the ATI X800. Wow. Like night and day!

I didn't ever realize how important RAM was until I worked with a Dual 2ghz G5 with 256 MB of ram. God, my G4 tower would run circles around it.

Poor thing.

Nice choice of upgrades! RAM is the best upgrade you can do, and the 9800 is at a really good price point at the moment.

I saw some talk about it before on here. I think you need a dual G5 for smooth 1080p.

Yeah, this thing can handle 1080p with ease. I love it, since that's what I mainly do. And editing video is SO much easier with this now.

I mean, at the moment I'm encoding a movie with Handbrake, editing a movie in iMovie, surfing the web, listening to music, dashboard galore. I mean, it might not sound like that is a lot of stuff, but compared to when I had 512mb ram, man. I couldn't even download the OS updates and open iTunes without getting a ton of pageouts and struggling mightily.

So the combination os the 9800 Pro helped a lot as well. I think I'll take some pictures of my set up now for the first time. Because I feel proud of it!

i actually got one from a member over at macnn.com. i looked at ebay but they all just seemed too expensive over there. but be sure to NOT get those flashed pc cards
