Just installed Vista Ultimate on my MBP C2D

Most things seemed ok right from the start.

1) Wireless drivers were not present, dowloaded the latest Atheros drivers and works fine

2) Sound drivers are according to Vista all working fine - unfortunately, I can't hear anything

3) The trackpad gestures such as two fingers plus click for right-click, and two finger scrolling don't work

4) Skype seems to think there is a video camera, but it's not working

So, got 1) fixed, any ideas about the rest please?

Bootcamp is currently a public beta and support for Windows Vista is not implied nor expressed

This is from a company whose iTunes software is incompatible with Vista, what do you expect? That they will keep up with the rest of the software industry?

Unfortunately, to add to that, a not too-3d-intensive game called Defcon runs quite slow

Dude... Why did you install Vista? It's a POS. It's MS' 5 year's later answer to OS X, an OS that's been getting refreshes anually for the past 5 years. Vista came out 5 years after XP, and it's got more problems than ever (from what I hear).

XP should be able to run all of your Windows-based games. Also, if you install XP first and then simply perform an UPGRADE from XP to Vista you should be fine hardware-wise. Either that, or restart into OS X and use the Boot Camp Assistant to burn the drivers CD, and then manually extract the drivers and install (i.e. double-click) their respective INF files. Search the forums here on how to do that.

Other than that all I can say is good luck.

here's an amazing guide to getting all the drivers installed. i've followed most of his directions and had great success (still no isight though). im also still looking for a the right click file. everything else is dandy though.

...Placing two fingers on the trackpad and clicking the button doesn't act as right-click? At least under XP that works, dunno about Vista..

Well, whether or not it's a 'POS', as you so charitably describe it, as a software engineer I have no choice but to at least become familiar with it. I specifically chose the MBP as a handy way of having all the possible OSs in one portable machine. Very handy taking to clients sites.

Further to my last post, I donwloaded the ATI Mobility drivers straight from AMDs website, and they work a dream.

Still got to get the Sigmatel drivers - as I don't have the original drivers file I initially produced when I installed XP.

I don't know why Apple or Sigmatel can't just put them on their websites! I am also very surprised no one has put them online to download. Regardless of copyright, it's not exactly the greatest crime morally - you can't exactly benefit from sigmatel drivers unless you have the darn hardware!!

When I installed vista I didn't need any drivers and everything worked fine, except for two finger scrolling. I didn't try the iSight, though.

I upgraded from XP to Vista...on a Dell...and it deleted all sound drivers and extra software I had. Luckily, I had my trusty DELL resource CD kit and my backed-up files on DVD's. My point - Vista doesn't seem quite ready for the world yet, even after 5 years of development.

I dont know where to find them, Im using the OEM version of ultimate a legal full version no RC1 or w/e its installed on a 3 day old macbook pro everything is good but i would like wireless

I just installed Windows Ultimate on my MBP. Sound works like it should if you manually extract the drivers from the Bootcamp Driver CD (version 1.1.2) and install it manually in the Device Manager. Again, trackpad gestures for right-click and two finger scrolling work in Vista if you extract the drivers from the Bootcamp driver CD and install it manually (a little tricky - you need to go the device manager, Human Interface Device, then find USB Human Interface Device with Hardware ID USB\VID_05AC&PID_0217&REV_0013&MI_01 (for Macbook Pro), then install the driver from the aapltp driver directory, then upgrade the actual mouse driver (under the mice section) with the driver in the applctp driver directory). Skype thinks there is an iSight camera but it is not working because the iSight driver installs, but it is not fully functional under Windows Vista.
