I am brand new to macs and just finally pulled the trigger on a brand new mac book not more than an hour ago. I have been reading this forum for about a year now and realize that this is the best place to come for advice so now that I made the change im hoping you guys can help me out. My question is this...I have all my mp3's on my itunes on my PC. Whats the easiest, best, or quickest way to get all these songs onto my new macbook. And like I said Im sure this question has to of been answered a hundred times now on this forum so if you can just point me in the right direction i would appreciate that too. Thanks in advance.

I do this often (grab music from another computer in the house) - if you have a network, the easiest way I've found is by using a program called ourTunes, which is a simple little program that searches out any shared iTunes libraries currently on your network, and lets you download them to your computer. All you have to do is go to your iTunes preferences on your PC and share your library, and then run the program on your MB, select all of your PC's music, and click "download". Because it's within a network, the transfers are very quick.

If you don't have a network set up, then the only other option I can think of would be to use an external drive and back your entire collection onto that, and then copy it back over into your MB's library. Perhaps someone else has a better suggestion?

Good luck!

FYI...No network. If worst comes to worst then I guess I will have to create a network which I was planning on doing at some point anyway. I guess this just gives me a reason to do it sooner than later.

ah :( I'd give you advice or pointers, but my IT fiance deals with all of that stuff, so I'm mostly clueless.. :p

can you go the external route?

or perhaps you don't have much music at all and could burn a data CD or DVD?

I do have an iPod, just have never used it for that purpose. How does that work?

See this

It has instructions as well as a Quicktime movie to show you how to do it.

Weclome to Mac!

Frisco thanks for the help. I knew that it was easier than it seemed. Thanks everyone for the help. Cant wait to get my macbook this week in the mail. Excited to say the least.

Another way...

I've found Senuti works well for your purpose especially since it's legitimate, so you don't have to use your iPod as an external hard drive. Really easy to use. Plug your iPod into your new computer and go!
