iPod Just opened factory sealed new iPod mini--problems

I just opened a second generation iPod mini, which ships with the old iPod+iTunes CD (iTunes 4.7.1).

I connected the iPod to the computer and it shows it's charging, but doesn't prompt iTunes to open or appear in iTunes.

I opened the CD to "install iPod" but when running a check it tells me that the software cannot be installed on this computer (UMBP).

Ideas?
 
Yeah I'm on the most current version.

I got it sorted though--the iPod just needed a bit of a charge first, the battery was absolutely drained since it last saw air in the eleventh week of 2005.

An iPod mini was the first iPod I ever had and loved it to death (a silver first gen four gig) but somewhere before the six other iPods and iPhone 3g in front of me on my desk, I lost it and never did replace it, until a month back when I saw a factory sealed, brand new second gen silver four gig for sale on ebay (as close as I could get for a brand new one) and my do i love it.

Best iPod Apple ever made, IMO. Memories, memories...

A time capsule of Apple iPods you have there:cool::cool:

BTW, iPod Minis were supposed to be charged to 80% then could be used. I think thats how friend had to do it at first.
 
I would have thought there'd be a chance that a battery left unused that long wouldn't be in the best condition.

If it turns out to be bad you can look into replacing the battery, it'll only cost £20 and it's very easy to do. A mini was my first iPod too :)

I got it for $89 on Buy it Now which I thought was plenty fair.

As for the time capsule comment, yeah it was really cool to open one and see all the stuff they used to ship with, like the oldskool headphones, the black foam earbud covers, the beltclip, etc...

As for the battery, it took a really long time to fully charge, but I haven't really used it yet so I can't comment...but I might be interested in replacing the battery, and maybe even making it a 16GB flash iPod.
 
IF you absolutely love it, your enjoyment overrides whatever price your paid and it is a worthwhile purchase.

I had a similar situation when I bought two Apple Refub 3rd Gen iPod nano's last October. They were a good deal from Apple with Free S&H they were $99 each and at least I knew they had the 1-Year Apple warranty bc I was looking on eBay but did not trust what was being sold for $125.

B4 I could use them, I had to connect them and charge them at least 25%, but I decided to charge them 100% then I had to update the firmware and then I could start to make a Playlist and Sync music over.

My Son uses his daily and I use mine a lot not as much since I got the 16GB iTouch, but they are holding up perfectly and even though they are 8 GB they still hold a ton of Tunes. I bought my wife the Purple Nano Chromatic for Xmas, she loves it but I like the form factor of the 3rd Gen Nano.
