Hi guys

After a long time I now live in a country that officially sells iPhones (NZ) and have just ordered a black 32 gig. Now I ask for your experience and wisdom in regard to apps and possibly jailbreaking.

1. Apps:
can anyone recommend any must have apps? (I'm sure you must be asked this all the time but I figured if I asked again I would get up to date advice)

2. Games:
Yes, they are technically apps, but I thought I'd give them their own section. Are there any good RPGs out there (free if possible)? Anything Diablo-like? Or possibly in the realms of Fable? Other than that, I'd appreciate any good, fun, addictive games that you have enjoyed.

3. Jailbreaking: I'm not yet sure if the phone I'm getting will be JBable, but if it is I have a couple of questions... Does jailbreaking work with the latest firmware as of yet, and if so are there any performance hits? Also (kind of a noob question) can I still shop from the iTunes store with a jailbroken iPhone?

4. Gelaskins:
I know I didn't mentio it before but has anyone here used one? I have heard mixed things but the designs are really cool. Are they all they're cracked up to be?

Thanks in advance :)

(btw, Crush The Castle is an awesome game, havent played it on iPhone but if online version is anything to go by I recommend that you guys check it out)

Come on...
Not even a hateful post linking me to other topics?
I honestly searched but couldn't find anything recent related to what I want

* Apple Remote.
* More at the App Store that you should personally explore.

* GTA. It's coming out soon.

JAILBREAK AT YOUR OWN RISK. I didn't Jailbreak but weighing the consequences of JBing, I decided not to.

Not recommendable. Switcheasy capsule rebel cases are better.

Thanks in advance :)

Refer to your edited quote.

First thing I would do is check both speakers. Seems I have seen a lot of problems with the speakers.

Apps:
Facebook
The Weather Channel
Now Playing
Shazam
Sportacular
Pandora
AOL Radio
eBay
Beejive IM
PicVault
PandoraBox

Games:
Tiger Woods
Backbreaker
Peggle

You can still use iTunes on a JB phone. I had my phone JailBroken for about 5 months. It was great because I was able to customize it to my liking but the springboard kept crashing so I went on ahead and went back to the regular phone.

ROFLCOPTER!

And to reply to the OP, it turns out you're able to search outside MacRumors using Google. Type your inquiries into Google and you'll find out way more info that is already on the web vs. asking people on this forum.

Funny, I have had many smartphones before I got a 3GS and I always had a few core apps that were must haves - but with the 3GS, there are so many and so many people use the iPhone in different ways that you just have to read and explore apps for yourself.

However, even if you are not a big music lover, Shazam is one of the coolest apps ever.

facebook is a must if you use facebook. I hardly ever use my mac any more.
Shazam is cool, just hold it up to some music and it tells you what it is, even linking you to various sites if you want to purchase it. Both these are free.

For games, flightcontrol is almost a required app at this point. Simple little time waster, draw lines to land planes on various runways. I keep coming back to this one every now and then. Only $0.99.

For a diablo RPG, the current king is Dragon Hunter. I haven't played it, as the genre doesn't interest me, but it's been getting rave reviews, and just looks amazing. I think I even heard on the Gamers With Jobs podcast that it is as good or even better than Diablo 2, in graphics, story, and gameplay. It's $6.99, but I hear quite worth it.

There is another space-RPG, sort of in the realm of Eve Online (it is a Massivly multiplayer RPG) that is due to be out any day now (been in the approval process for over 2 months now). It's called Outer Empires. You can get a feel for it, as you can play in a browser on a mac or pc, and for free! Free accounts are gimped a bit, but there is no level cap. Subscription is $3 or $4 a month (can't remember). I hear the iPhone client is better and more polished than the browser version. Something to look into. So browser is free, I think the app will have a minimal cost. And a monthly subscription to open it fully.

Here are my favorite apps. They are must haves for me, but don't know about you. Also, these are from the U.S. store, can't speak as to availability in other stores....

Tap Grocer
BillMinder
iStockManager
RadarScope
Navigon
ColorSplash
American Heritage Dictionary
Sportacular
Convertbot

Thanks guys, i'll check those out as soon i get my iTunes problems sorted out. And for the record i know the iPhone only has one speaker

I understand his excitement. I just got 3GS on Wednesday and feel like I haven't even begin to grasp everything I can do with it.
