I've been waiting to replace my powerbook for almost a year now, and I was actually holding out for the Core 2 Duo iMacs, but it got to the point where my sleepy machine was driving me crazy so I gave in and pushed the 'buy me' button.

Here's what I ordered:
  • 2.66Ghz clock speed
  • Standard 1Gb RAM (will add more when it's cheaper/more available)
  • Bluetooth/Airport (the killer items for delaying the machine)
  • 250Gb HDD (will add another third party HDD when I have more money)
  • 2x superdrives
  • 23" display
  • Applecare
Working on a machine like this has been a long time coming... But the truly amazing thing is that my 17" powerbook (Rev A) cost more than this entire setup!

*fiddling thumbs, waiting for Mac Pro to arrive*

Anyone out there with nice pics or video of their Mac Pro in action - post 'em in below to give me something to look at while I wait!

I'd love to see a quicktime vid of the system operating and the speed of opening apps and multitasking etc.

;)

Chuck.

I ordered a Mac Pro early last week, and it is expected to ship September 13th.

It sure will be four long weeks!

Mine is a 3-5 week wait, and because I live in Adelaide, I lean towards a 5-6 week wait! :(
Which BTO part makes it 3-5 weeks for you?

My MacPro is coming too! THE FINEST!

I got a small discount because my company buys a lot direct from Apple, but it is still running around $15K. Four drives, 16Gb memory, two 30" and the top of the line video card, among other things:

Specifications

Two 3GHz Dual-Core Intel Xeon
16GB (8 x 2GB)
500GB 7200-rpm Serial ATA 3Gb/s
500GB 7200-rpm Serial ATA 3Gb/s
500GB 7200-rpm Serial ATA 3Gb/s
500GB 7200-rpm Serial ATA 3Gb/s
NVIDIA Quadro FX 4500 512MB, Stereo 3D (2 x dual-link DVI)
Apple Cinema HD Display (30" flat panel)
Apple Cinema HD Display (30" flat panel)
Two 16x SuperDrives
Both Bluetooth 2.0+EDR and AirPort Extreme
Apple USB Modem
Apple Keyboard and Mighty Mouse - U.S. English
Mac OS X - U.S. English
AppleCare Protection Plan for Mac Pro/Power Mac (w/or w/o Display) - Auto-enroll

I remember when I bought my fully loaded PM 9500/132 in '95 and spent about ten grand on it! My last upgrade (other than my MacBook Pro 17" laptop), was the G4 loaded system in 2003, again about $10K. I passed on the G5 entirely.

I'm going to order mine soon. Thankfully I don't need the wireless option, but only bluetooth. That only adds a couple days. Unfortunately I need the X1900 video card. Thus I'll be in the same boat as you. But there's nothing like living vicariously though other users who have their MacPros already... Hurray for the forums.

nice. mine's somewhere between anaheim and atlanta and should be here tuesday. i too am upgrading from a 17" PB. i ordered it just days after they announce the 17's. it's odd how my finances seem to align right w/ new product announcements. i'm thinking this mac pro will be quite an upgrade for motion graphic work. i'll be looking to get rid of the stock 7300gt as soon as my x1900xt comes in, so if anyone is looking to pick up an extra, let me know.

btw, my first post. i've been reading these forums non-stop for the past couple of months. very nice.

I joined the queue too :(

Jumped in today too, with a 2.66 with 500GB HDD and 2GB of RAM and an extra 20" to go with my existing one (upgrading my Mac setup from an October 05 revision 15" PB).

Was slightly moronic and added the Airport and bluetooth though, meaning I now have 2 to 4 weeks to wait until I can get the damn thing. I feel as though they should give me a discount for the interest they'll be earning sat on my money, while I patiently wait!

Also, any other UK buyers having trouble with the store lately? Tried putting it through on card twice, timed out both times. Tried a wire transfer... flunked out too. Called them up and all three had gone through! Had to cancel the wire and one of the cards.

Oddly enough, I ordered HOURS ago and I still have no e-mail and nothing showing in my online order status. But the phone guys can see it.

Never used to do that. :(

The Apple store here still shows 4 weeks for airport unfortunately.

Welcome to Macrumors, Fuzz. Hey my 17" was revA as well, and I ordered it a few days after the announcement too - how long was the wait for those buggers! It was like 3 months or something! My daughter ended up arriving before the powerbook did. Actually I just did a search for my post way back when the powerbook got here - hilarious. I've got a son now too.

Wow cryellow, that's about as specced out as you can get - what specificially do you do?

Chuck.

Yeah whats with the USB Modem? Only reason I can imagine doing that is so you can say you bought every single option  but then again, I too will believe it when I see it.

Wow, it looks like 'four weeks' ETA on the Apple site here (not USA) had just been changed to '2-3 weeks' so my Mac Pro will be here even sooner. :)

And today I received the Applecare for it via courier - weird, since it's pretty useless without the machine. Why wouldn't they send it with the machine? It's just extra courier costs for them.

Anyway, I'm happier now.

Chuck.

mine was delivered tuesday. amazing machine. haven't run into the first problem, yet. it's amazing how well it runs adobe apps, after effects doesn't seem any slower than on the g5's we have at school(i believe they're the dual-core 2ghz). photoshop and illustrator are quick as well. you guys will be very happy with your purchase!
