Just ordered a Macbook. What should I expect?

I just ordered a Macbook (2.0, 1GB RAM, 80 GB HDD) from my local Apple Retailer (Apple stores are quite a while away) and I wanted to know what sort of performance bump I should expect.

I'm upgrading from a hp pavilion computer with 14 gigs of HDD with 128 MB's of RAM and a 1 GH Intel Celeron.

Would anyone know how much faster the Macbook would be?

Seriously though, you wont notice any lags in daily use applications. (Web browsing, Photo Viewing , etc)

It's difficult to numerically give expectations, but you will definitely feel a big increase in speed and response time. Just don't be disappointed if you experience some lagging due to non universal apps and Rosetta, they eventually will not be a problem.

It's nice to hear that I won't get any lags with programs. This machine freezes with even Messenger and Firefox running. And Photoshop barely works.

I hope I don't get any of the issues I've been hearing about. But hey, if you're gunna wait for the next thing, you'll be waiting an age.

You might get a little slowdown with apps that aren't Universal Binary – for more on that click here. If necessary, you could even use your Windows copy of Photoshop if you had Boot Camp installed and an XP Service Pack 2 disc. But things definitely feel faster to me –*I'm on a MacBook right now (with less RAM even) and it's a HUGE improvement over my old laptop (an iBook with specs a little higher than yours).

As for issues, it depends. It may seem like there are a bunch of problems with the new computers, but this being a forum where more technically-inclined people congregate, it's a bit out of proportion. Also, people with problems are more likely to talk about them then those with none.

I upgraded from a Fujitsu Siemens with 2.4 GHz Celeron D, 256 MB DDR RAM and a 30 GB HDD. This means mine had around double your specs. You shouldn't care, you will just meet a 2x as large an improvement, which is crazy. I never got the beachball on my MB, except when opening GarageBand. I have same MB as you, but with a 60 GB HDD. Except snappier apps and smokingly fast loading and rendering, the two bets improvements are: 1. OS X. 2. Boot time a round 20 secs. Congrats!

How was the out of the box commercial a lie? I was up and running when I switched over in no time flat. I had itunes playing songs, imported all my photos, and had pictures printing easy as pie, and wireless picked up without any effort on my part so I was up on the net upon bootup. Sure it was patching in the background, but so what, that didn't stop me from doing all sorts of things with it.
