Just ordered a mini

Been dealing with an old PC, for WAY too long. AMD socket 939, along with a Powerbook G4(1.67Ghz and 1.5 Gig Ram, got free from work)

with the new iphone i bought(my first iphone) and the pain of dealing with both these systems(PC, ugh...G4, UGH(slow)) I decided to stop being a cheap ass and get something new.

I already picked up a 22'' monitor a few months ago for the PC, so I let the imac fall to the side even tho it is faster.

I bought the standard version. I added an external enclosure for one of my drives from the PC that will be my time machine backup. I will use it with glee.

No one cares what I do, BUT I post to forward what I learned from a few others here... i saved $80 ordering through amazon.(no tax and their reduced price)
 
Good job on picking up the deal from Amazon. I did that as well. It was here the next day (cheap with Amazon Prime), and I couldn't be happier with the new Mini.

I have always wanted one - and finally convinced myself to get one. I am coming from a slightly more powerful iMac - but really was looking to get into a more configurable setup, without having to fork out the cash for a Mac Pro. I don't notice the difference in performance, but like the fact that I can switch out displays or the Mini itself when I want to.
 
amen brother....i am a cheap ass obviously lol. Well i chose where to spend my money I guess. IF someone was to give me my mac of choice, it would be a macpro, but i am not giving that kind of cash to sync my iphone/ipod and play with what i do at home on the computer. I do a little work at home, but omg $2400 to use my own monitor? Mini it was. Gots plenty of hardware at work for when i WORK :)

Anyways. no one cares about my mini that's on it's way. I just wanted to pass along the savings I found.

PS please tell me you are older than 38, or "OldMike" makes me sick lol (I am 38)
 
i'm amazed when i hear people are still using G4 macs (and even G5s) from 4-5 years ago. you're going to be surprised at how quiet and fast the mini is compared to your pbook. and the mini is the slowest mac there is.
 
I just ordered a mini too. My current apple machine is an ancient TiBook 1Ghz. My iphone has specs that approach it. It's been a faithful workhorse for many years now, but it's time to put it out to pasture. I've been holding out for this update for the mini with HDMI since I heard the rumor. The sexy aluminum unibody is a nice plus, as is the SD card slot.

I'll use this as a 2D drafting machine and a general computer for work and home stuff once I move my PC out of the office (windows on my mac finally... yay! don't need a PC for anything anymore). In the meantime I'll use it in the entertainment center. Eventually the plan is to get an iPad for my mobile needs with something like LogMeIn and a nice collapsible keyboard. That'll cover 99% of my mobile needs, and for a lot cheaper than maintaining a desktop and a laptop computer.

I'm just cheesed that you'll never be allowed to tether your iPad through your iPhone (and that it costs $20 for the privilege of tethering your laptop). If I'm paying for 2 gigs of data, why should AT&T get to care what device I consume it on? But I digress.

Bring on the new minis!
 
I went from a dual 2.3 G5 at work to a mini(last generation 2.53Ghz) and everyone laughed...and asked questions. It is so much faster, but as pointed out, jump a few YEARS in tech and you will be amazed. Now we have a line forming for co workers wanting something new lol. Boss said NO to new $2400 machines(20 plus) which we don't need the power for(2d graphics work), YES to new $1000 machines( has upgrades).


at home? haha lots of money in the bank for oher things, and i get to torch a PC Muh-hahahaha. Before someone says it, i know i can hackintosh....but i got other things to do.

PS at&t knows SOME will pay extra $20 to tether the same bandwidth....I would charge it too,see how it worked out and all ;) Why can't you spread your usage per month over more than one device? Cause SOME will pay both. the rest just bitch about not being able too. They still get SOME money from you :D
