Only thing that people seem to be pointing out is that you can probably save some money if you buy the minimum RAM now and order an upgrade from someone else online.

Good order but I agree with the above poster, order it with the base 1gb RAM and add a 2gb card in the slot yourself (extremely easy to install), will save you $$$ and you will get more memory......

What type of RAM would you buy? I want to make an imac purchase and was also considering the RAM upgrade. I know there are different types of RAM to purchase...... What type should I get and HOW MUCH will it cost for that 2GIG chip??

Also, can you mix a 2GIG chip with the 1GIG that is already installed or do I need to buy another 1GIG chip?

I ordered 2gb initially (for an extra £90) then after the advice given reordered with 1gb and ordered 4gb for £120 separately!

and yes, you can mix the chips to have 3 GB total ;)

If you're not in the UK I'm sure someone will be along to tell you where to get get cheap memory in your location :)

Ya, I'm in the US. The link you posted said "DDR2 5300 SODIMMs", is that the EXACT type of memory needed? I guess I could search for a single 2GB chip and go from there, right?

Yes, those are the ones. You could just spash out on 2 x 2GB chips and sell off the 1GB that came with the machine;)
