I finally just ordered my 24" iMac.

I got it refurbished from the Apple Store for $1399.

2.4 GHz with 1GB of RAM (I ordered 4 GB - should arrive in time)
320GB HDD and 2600 Pro

I can't wait! It shipped yesterday and Fedex says it'll be here on Sat. July 5th.

I was going to order the 2.8GHz system, I think I'm starting to regret it.

Am I going to see a big difference in performance with the 2.4 GHz rather than the 2.8? I won't be doing any encoding really, I'm more focused on things like startup time and the daily tasks (web browsing, email, iPhoto, iTunes.) The only game I'll really be playing is WoW and The Sims 2.

I'll also be installing Vista with bootcamp.

So what do you think the performance would be like at 2.4 GHz with 4 GB of RAM?

Congrats. The 2.4 will fly with 4gigs.Depends what you wanna do with it though.Im sure you'll be happy with it.Well goodluck with you imac.Im looking to get one soon.Have fun!

Congrats! You're definately going to enjoy it.

I bought my imac on Sunday, but I went all out and bought the top of the line model, 24" 3.0ghz. Loving it ever since.

Apple makes a great OS. Hopefully you will enjoy it, I know I have for the past ~18 years (from 5 years of age).

Make sure to run the Hardware check/diagnostic when you get it mine came with a dead optical drive and it was 'new'.

First things first.
I hate you......

Not really!
I just REALLY envy you.
That computer is the exact one I've been looking at on the refurb site. :p

And, since I'm about 1000 dollars away from owning it, the fact that you have yours on the way to your house makes me jealous. :D

You won't see a huge difference in what you need it for.

MAYBE in the gaming because macs pretty much suck in that department, but hey... I would trade better gaming for that OS ANY day.

If you don't mind...
After use for a week or so, mind doing a little mini review?
I would love to see what you think about it since I would have the same specs (I'm planning on upping the RAM as well to 4gb).

Good luck!

And don't forget pictures when you get around to it! :p

Wow thanks guys! I wasn't expecting such a response. You're all such nice forum members :)

I'll definitely write a little review, and post some pictures - of course.

I've been a PC user for the past 11 years, so its hard to imagine why I'm switching. I just love the simplicity - it's all just common sense that a PC never had.

So what else do you guys think performance wise?

Same here i have been a pc user from age 5 now im 15 and i am basically a pc fanboy but getting sick and tired of vista and i been wanting to change but afraid i am not going to like the OS as i am too attached to windows (xp) and thats the reason why i know too much about windows i can get my way around anything but nothing about mac thats the reason why i have not switched. so do a mini review and tell us what you think?

I don't think you would see any difference between 2.4 and 2.8, unless you had them side by side and clocked certain things, considering what you are using it for.

I have a 20" iMac with the same specs, except I have 2 GB of RAM and I used to play WoW (in OSX) and the Sims 2 (in WinXP via bootcamp). WoW will play great with near max detail, if not full max, but then again WoW's getting kinda old and doesn't take much horsepower these days. Expect to see the normal slowdowns in the heavily populated areas, like IF near the bank.

The Sims 2 will play fine. I kept the detail at about about half. The neighborhood flyby movies are not smooth, it takes a while to load, but gameplay is fine. Others may think it's flawless while some may think the performance sucks. It was good for me. Again, this is in WinXP.

The only performance issues you may have are if you decide to play the latest and greatest games. I mess around with Age of Conan sometimes and I have to turn the detail almost down to minimum for it to be really smooth.

Congrats!

I pushed the boat out and ordered the top model. Unfortunately I haven't actually seen it yet! It's at home waiting for me while I've been working away and I won't get my hands on it until tomorrow night! How's that for torture!!

thanks! yeah, I'm jealous of everyone who has a 2.8 or 3.06 GHz iMac, but I'm sure once I get it I shouldn't be disappointed. I was originally saving for the 2.8GHz but I couldn't wait.

4GB of RAM would help me a lot. Right now, My PC has an AMD Athlon X2 4200+, at 2.0 GHz I believe, an Nvidia 7600gt, and 2GB of RAM with a 320 GB HDD. It plays TS2 flawlessly and WoW beyond perfect.

So I'll be receiving a nice upgrade from my processor and RAM, but a slight downgrade with the 2600 Pro.

I'll write a review after I first get it - I'll need to get used to OS X after 11 years of Windows. I'll try to take some pictures too.

Thanks guys!

first, congrats.
second, i am so jealous! i have been looking at the refurbished imacs and i didn't see a deal that sweet. :(

enjoy your new baby!

The refurb deals are incredible - what are you talking about?

wow congrats! yes it's been up there for quite a while. I was originally going to buy the one for 1550 - 2.8 ghz but I decided to stick with a 2.4 ghz machine and spend the difference for 4 gb of RAM.

I won't be gaming much on it, WoW and TS2, and I think I should be fine with that.

If you want it, act quickly, because they can be taken down at any time.

I did the same exact thing you did about 2 weeks ago..... ordered the 2.4 refurb. put 4gb ram in it. i'm quite satisfied.

That exact computer is still on the refurb list going for 1399.

I'm about to pick it up as well. ;)

I've been looking at the refurb list since yesterday... it's definitely not there

EDIT
yes it is, lol I thought his original post said he had the 512mb graphics card... I was like... no freaking way. Nevermind, haha.

how does the system run? Fast, would you say?

what do you primarily do with it?

I just found out it'll come on Tuesday. It says on FedEx that the estimated delivery date was today.:confused:
