Hey everyone,
I come here a lot and read the forums, but I think this is my first post, or maybe second, dunno. Regardless, I just ordered a 17" MacBook Pro with high-resolution matte display, an 8GB red iPod Nano, and a bag for my new baby. I went with the standard hard drive and everything, just upped the screen resolution. It'll go nicely with my 2.66 Mac Pro with 3gb of ram. Oh, and I ordered a wireless Mighty Mouse (that will work fine with the laptop right?).

Ahh, it should be here next week, I'm so excited. I've never had a laptop before, it should be nice for school and travel. I've been saving up for a long time for this everyone, I'm so freakin' excited.

A MacBook Pro with a Mac Pro. Nice setup there mate. Be sure to post photos for us. :)

Once I clean my desk area next week and get the MBP set up I'll show it off for sure. I've worked hard for the money for all of this, so I won't mind showing it off. :)

I think it's an incredibly dumb combination. Why purchase a (large) desktop replacement laptop when you already have a powerful desktop machine?

Gee, sorry I can't lug my Mac Pro around with me wherever I go. A 17" laptop isn't really that big, and if it is, I'll just exchange it for a 15", not that big of a deal really. I wanted to give the high-res screen a chance.

Your gonna have one hellofa setup! Congrats! Nows you just need that iPhone to bring it all together.:)

I'll be at the nearest AT&T store on the 29th at 6pm. I'm gonna use a check I won in a contest at school to pay for all of that. Hooray for contests.

Well, we don't know what they're being used for, do we. I know I wouldn't need that much power, but others might.

I use my Mac Pro mostly for large RAW file editing in Aperture (which shockingly does in fact make it chug sometimes, and I have 3gb of ram in this beast.)

And not having a laptop is really starting to become taxing on my shooting, especially for long trips.

I think ghettochild's jealous. There there ghettochild. :)

Since you can afford it, I reckon you did the right thing. As great as the 15" is, I reckon you'll appreciate the bigger 17" screen.

Yeah, I hope I like the 17" one. The only thing I'm worried about it is it being too big to really get the portability aspect out of it ya know? But I reckon it'll be okay. And if it's not, I'll just trade it for a 15.4" and get some money put back on the credit card, so it's a win-win really.

I canceled the 17"...

Okay, so I decided the 17" was in fact too big to take with me every day or so, so I decided to cancel the 17 and go with the 2.4 15" one. I hope I don't get the yellow tint issue.

Sweet. It sounds awesome with your Mac Pro!

I'll be ordering a white MacBook in about two weeks. I can't wait.

Be sure to posts pictures of both Macs working together!

I just bought a new SR 2.4 Ghz MBP and it is Freaking AWESOME!!! It is my first mac by the way!!! I can not think of a better way to use OSX and have the wonderful portablity that the MBP provides. You will not regret the 15 in screen.
This 15 in MBP is the same width and depth of my old Toshiba 14.1 screen Windows machine and the MBP is about 3/8 in thinner!!! I can not belive all the work that Apple did to get this machine to be as small and light weight as they did.
I don't know why people think they should do a case redesign because this one seems to be perfect!! I love the aluminum and it feels sturdy and like it has substance.
Congradulations man on your computers! Now put them to good use :)

Just kidding guys, I ended up canceling the 15 and going back to the 17.

I took some paper and lined up how big of a footprint the 17 would be compared to the 15, and the difference wasn't THAT much really. I decided that I might as well go all out for that high-res display that will really shine in Leopard.

I'm a sucker for big stuff.

I know what you mean with the Mac Pro 'stalling' sometimes. When I'm in FCP, I noticed it judder now and then... albeit 2GB isnt much for video editing, but they were only small clips... 30mins in timeline total..

ps. for those wondering, Ram for the MP is coming.. just not urgent :)

Even when I was working with iMovie for a little project for English class, it was just stalling a bit. I'm not sure why, maybe I shouldn't leave this behemoth on all the time. HAHA.

yeah, I think the problem is with the OS and programs. They arent 'fully' optimised for multicore...

Tiger is optimised to some extent, but hopefully, Leopard will have better integration
