Long time reader, occasional poster, first time buyer. I'll have to change my nick-name in a couple weeks...

I'm fortunate enough to work for a large enough company that get's "prefered customer" discounts (not a whole lot - puts it sort of in line with mac-mall). Bundled that with Steve's Crazy Thanksgiving Blowout Event and I figured this is about as good as it gets until a product refresh or a referb..

So.. as I've learned from so many great people - I upgraded the 24" 2.4 to a 2.8 and threw in another upgrade to 500g HD. 1mg ram - but will upgrade third party. Got Final Express 4 - cause the more I spend... The more I save...;-)

I can't tell you how long I've been contemplating my new IMAC purchase. Been on the sidelines since the flat screen imac's cameout . My last Mac purchase (which wasn't for me but my college organization) was a Mac SE/30. Now that Mac's upgrade path is pretty much dictated by Intel - I'm assuming I would continue to convince myself to stay on the sidelines waiting for the next big thing.. because the upgrades/updates are going to come much much faster than pre-intel. Time to pull the trigger...

I plan on home video editing, photo editing (light stuff), and my kids are into music so it may find itself midi-integrated before too long.

I gather that I should do a re-install on all of the system software (based on what I've read..) to avoid any original OEM OSX image issues.. Other than that, I'll be peaking into this website for help with moving my gobs of Windoze stuff over..

I'll be pacing like an expectant father in the meanwhile...

Aww, welcome aboard!! You won't regret a single thing, and won't even look back. I switched myself just last year to the last model imac, and I'm just jumping for joy that I won't have to deal with vista. Happy times are ahead! You'll just be blown away by the fact that you just lift the imac out of the box, set it on the desk, plug in the single power cord and maybe the mouse/keyboard, and in a few minutes you're on the net. That as opposed to my all day sessions setting up my previous dells.

Thanks all! Already preparing a place for it... I have a couple FW400/USB 2.0 drives already - I'll see how well they hum before moving to FW800. Went to Crucial for a 2gig stick. Thanks for the Links though.

Any other newbie advice is welcome!
