Hey,

I've just bit the bullet and ordered the above computer! It should come tomorrow or Thursday and I'm so excited! It's all standard specification this time but lets face it, it's pretty generous even at bottom end these days. 4 gigs of ram is more than I could ever care to use!

You see, I posted this thread last night: https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/925659/

My previous white 24" iMac died of failed logic board and it would have cost about as much as a new computer, plus i can't wait the time it takes to fix.

I am so, so excited! I'm sure you all know what the specs are. It's the model below the quad I believe. It's Christmas + birthday rolled into one for me today! Second mac already :D

:D

Joe, its always good to hear someone so excited about a new purchase and I wish you all the luck in the world with it.

Personally I don't think it will last even half as long (sans problems) as your old iMac.

I'll never buy a new mac again and especially not from the UK.

Dodgy quality and dodgier *ahem* ethics and service from Apple UK. Dreadful really.

I really hope it works for you as you are the sort of customer (enthusiastic evangelist) that Apple should look after.

I fear it will end in tears..in fact I'd put money on it.:(

Don't be such a downer! My 2009 macs (mini and 20" imac) are holding out great. My new 2010 MBP is just amazing! I am sure this 27" iMac will serve the OP well for many years!! (Well, as far as apple care will take him.)

Wow...what a statement!

a 2009 Mac and a 2010 still running........

Not being a downer, just realistic.

Applecare should NOT be needed, especially in the UK where we have very good consumer laws.

eg

Under the Sale of Goods Act, retailers are responsible for faulty goods (that are not 'of satisfactory quality') for up to six years after you bought them. In Scotland the period is five years after something goes wrong. 'Satisfactory quality' covers various aspects that could be wrong with the goods, including whether they've lasted as long as you could reasonably expect. A 'reasonable' lifetime for different products is not defined in law and would ultimately be for a court to decide. But, for example, you might reasonably expect a £600 television to last longer than 18 months, but you wouldn't necessarily expect compensation if a £20 kettle broke down in this period.

no way a court would rule that a non moving iMac costing £1k+ should only last 1 year or so...I know this as a fact from experience...more than once!

Mate I'm so happy for you, read the thread of yours last night and it's great to see that you're getting a new mac already! I am also getting a 27" iMac soon, can't wait :)

sick man! i have the i7 iMac and i personally LOVE it to death!!!! :D

its the best comptuer ive ever had (dont let my MBP hear me say that ;) ).

goodluck with it! post some pictures! :)

Thanks everyone! I'm hoping I won't have any problems with this one, especially seeing as we're now on 10.6.3 and so hopefully some of the bugs will have been worked out.

I only had some problems with my white iMac from 2006 when I was a newbie user, and I never found Tiger all that stable anyway (this was how it was for me, not saying it was like that for everyone). To be honest it seemed to be running absolutely great in its last 4 months (well all its life realllllly). I was really shocked when it broke down. The last song I played on it was Streets of Philadelphia by Bruce Springsteen :p .

I really hope that this one will be good and I'm certain it will be. Just one thing though - I'm used to the matte screen of my white iMac and have only used glossy screens when demo-ing the macs in Apple stores. How does it differ? I like the sound of glossy, it looks better anyway.

Cheers for the supportive messages anyway. :)

You seem really happy for someone whose 24" iMac just died. I'd be furious. My 2003 Rev.A 12" PowerBook is still running strong and I've used it daily since I bought it. Guess they don't make em like they used to. My i7 iMac better last longer than a couple years.
