No, seriously. I'm not being a smartass, I just haven't seen a single post from anyone saying they have a problem free MBP.

I'm still in my 'holding' pattern as to whether to risk buying a macbook, as I'm waiting to see what happens with the ibook(macbook) release, which is supposedly soon.

On to the topic though:

I was just perusing Apple's forums tonight, and man, it seems like every other post in the MBP forum is whine/noise. So just out of sheer curiosity......is there anybody here who has a MBP that doesn't have the whine?

The heat is irrelevant to me, it's the whine and the audio clicking that had me return mine. (the audio clearly being something with the logic board).

I'm just starting to think the noise-free MBP is like the elusive white whale or something, haha.

There are guys in those forums that have returned 3, 4, even 5 MBP's due to whine/noise issues. Is it just present on ALL MBP's?

I realize it's a support forum, so you'll see more problems there as a representative percentage, but still......

my girlfriends mbp doesn't whine

it does all of these though:

makes 'whooping' sound when it gets hot
gets ridiculously hot (she has to wave it around to cool it)
screen flickers at lowest brightness setting
airport looses connection
lid is uneven

but, it is sooooo fast

haha wow, you seem to have the lemon of MBP's then. Why didn't she try to return/exchange it?

The only problem mine had was the whine, and everytime an audio file initiated, whether it be an iTunes song or the blip from changing volume, an audible click would play right before the file played. I returned it and have been waiting to see what happens with fixes and what not from Apple.

My new MBP (I only got it for 3 days!) used to whine but since the upgrading to 1.01 firmware the issue seems to be resolved.

I am still concerned about the heat, I did a PMU reset the situation seems to be improved slightly as evident but the strip above the function key is no longer untouchable but it is still rather warm.

One point to note that a firmware upgrade messed up the PMU reset I did previously and I unit got hot so I had to redo the PMU reset after upgrading the firmware. I will continue to monitor the situation regarding heat.

For your information my serial is W8613

Mine does that too. It's so cute. It sounds almost like an animal sound, but I think it is a fan that starts and then decides that it doesn't have to start after all.

well she didn't want to, she was (and still is) really happy with it. If it were mine though, i would have taken it back.

The funnyest thing was when we were talking through ichat with a one way video link, and all of a sudden it looked as if her computer was being thrown around the room, all i could see was desk>ceiling>desk>ceiling etc etc. When normality was restored she told me she was trying to cool her computer. I couldn't help but laugh at the situation

mine:

Doesn't whine
Doesn't click
Doesn't flicker
Doesn't drop out

Does get hot, not unbearable, and only when doing something which eats the processor, like gaming
Does have a slighty uneven lid

Does fly!
