Interestingly enough I called them about my line issue they set me up with the store, I went talked to the manager and he claims he has NEVER heard of a line issue, I tried to show him mine he said I don't see anything, its fine, im like WTF

they had in the entire store ONE macbook air on display it too had a line issue, ironically the display and mine both had 9c90 so I asked was there another one he had in the back so I can show him the difference, (praying while he went to go get one that it DIDNT have a line issue so he can see the difference, cause when I compared it to the macbook pro and white macbook he said those are totally different lol)

The one he brought from the back had no lines at all and I showed him and showed him how it had a different model than mine and the display and that was the issue....ironically enough my wifi wasn't working in the store either and he said wow this is messed up he tried everything....

So he changed it for the 2.13 but said if anything is wrong with this or even if you have lines I will not exchange it....can they do that? I can still go through apple care if need be right?

He than came back and said ok as one time courtesy I will change this out for you but if there is anything wrong with the 2.13ghz I will not swap it at all for another one, so now I am like kind of scared to open it....how many of you have line issues on the new one? I am STILL on the fence between this new AIR 2.13ghz vs the MBP 13" with 250gb hard drive but the weight makes me want to keep the Air

Come to think of it I don't do much more than surf, email, documents, music, n blog nothing too high end at all mostly messaging n all, so I am thinking unlike most people here i don't NEED the MBP I just like the SD card A LOT and i LOVE the 7 hour battery even if its really 5 lol...and it WOULD be nice to have the optical drive although I have super drive....

Anyone in my predicament thoughts would be appreciated... I mean does MBP 13 have line issues too or is it just the AIR? is it more obvious on some than others? I never had any with lines till this 1.6 120gb one...Iv dealt with like 3 of the original ones...

that manager is just sending you packing with that computer to make his job easier. He has absolutely no right to tell you that he will never repair or exchange your computer even if it is broken. Worst case scenario, go through Applecare. Unless you have tampered with your computer out of warranty, that manager has no case. Have fun with your new macbook air and hope that it is trouble-free.

Return it. Apple is just trying to steal people's money before phasing out the Air. The screens are terrible. I just bought one myself but the quality of the screen was so poor, and the lines so annoying, that I returned it. It's really unfortunate as there is no other laptop around at this point to fulfill my needs (I would not carry a superdrive around with me as I wouldn't carry a floppy drive around with me), but I suppose I'll have to wait for Apple to finally realize that optical drives don't belong in laptops.

i was facing the same dilemna like yours. I choose the MBP over MBA finally just because of the extra juice you get out of the new battery. It's very important as i travel a lot. Consider this, if you add in the superdrive and the MBA, it'll probably be the same weight overall. Unless you are telling me you won't carry the superdriver around much. If that's the case, why bought it in the first place? you can just access to any mac/pc's optical drive to do a wireless transfer. hope it helps your decision.

Sometimes, I just don't understand people. If you know the product doesn't have high quality enough to meet your standard, you should run away from it. If they're willing to replace twice already, I think it should be more than enough. If you are a business owner, will you think the same way?

You can always sell it after a few months and get a new one. Im thinking about that option. Maybe get a 13" MBP now, and then when the new and improved MBA comes out, sell the MBP. I doubt the MBP will lose value that much.

But then again, I want an MBA right now. lol.

If anyone has answered these questions for you, I didn't see it, so I'll answer them.

The MBP 13 does NOT have the lines issue. This issue only affects the Air.
It IS more obvious on some Airs than on others.

The 13" MBP has a beautiful display, but it's ultra glossy. The MBA has a glossy but not glassy display. It is very pretty to look at. The problem is with many MBAs there are lines that show on light colored backgrounds. Most of the time, these are not noticeable by the average user. Someone has to really look for them most of the time. Sometimes, it's very obvious though. And those are the times when it's problematic. For some people, it just drives them crazy. I saw a new MBA two days ago that had the worst lines I had ever seen. I could see the lines on even medium colored backgrounds. I had to return that for two more, and I returned one I probably should have kept as the lines were so faint I could only see them from up very close and only on white backgrounds.

I changed the display settings to Gamma 2.2 on this new MBA, and I cannot see lines on whites but I can see them on a light grayish/brownish colored background when I get my eyes close to the keyboard. BUT, it's not visible from normal distance 99% of the time. So it all comes down to what makes you happy, and if it bothers you go with a different Mac.

I think the MBA is too nice and fun to let something like that, WHEN MINOR, ruin my experience. As 99% of the time, you cannot see it from normal distance... but you can find it fast if you know where to look by getting your eyes close to the display.

Good luck.

Apple has had years now to isolate this problem and iron it out, it's ridiculous that they haven't.

Also, if it's a power supply problem with software, they should be able to fix it with a firmware update without making battery life suffer. Since some MBAs have the problem and some don't, that would suggest that the power supply setting is right at the break off point, and only needs to be edged off a bit.

but I'm guessing its more of a hardware problem, I dunno.
