Just picked up an i5 Mini with a trade at Best Buy

Thanks to another thread in the MBA section, I learned that the buy back on Apple computers are pretty good value at Best Buy....So I took my late 2008 Unibody Macbook, which I was using as a sudo-server, and got $631 trade in value and I picked up an i5 2.4 Mini...out of pocket was only $138...not a bad buy at all and serves my purposes much better....now to add another hard drive in there! :)

What were the specs on your machine? I'd like to know so I can get an idea on what the value of my 2010 Mac Mini is. I'd trade this one and put in a little pocket cash for a new one.
 
i had a maxed out 08 unibody....so 2.4ghz, 4gb mem, 320gb hard drive....quick and painless trade in process...
 
Estimator is whacked....

Best Buy's estimator offered me more for a 2008 macbook 13" ($605) unibody than my 2011 macbook pro 13" i5 ($498)........ :rolleyes:

Must be overvaluing CPU clock speed...
 
wow, got $664 gift card for my late '08 unibody 15" mbp. I can't say thats bad at all.
 
I gave my mom my old MacBook (2008 White), which was a great deal at the time: $1300 for 2.4GHz C2D, and I upgraded it to 4GB RAM and 500GB HD. Best Buy quote sheet says $670 - which is ridiculous for a 3 year old machine.

I'm planning on trading it in, and getting my mom a base mini with a larger monitor (she seems to be annoyed by the small screen, and never utilizes it as a laptop anyhow).

$150 out of pocket for a mini + new 19" monitor + wireless mouse (she has an older apple keyboard) - I'm a happy man, and a good son to boot!
 
I looked up the value on my 2.0 ghz aluminum unibody and the quote they gave me was insulting at best. i have a feeling cpu speed really influences what it quotes. either way i got more for the machine selling outright then any kinda of trade up. Im glad someone got some use out of that program though because i was sure as heck wasnt going to.
 
I feel the need to respond since I just traded my old laptop in. I had a Jan 2007 white MacBook, C2Duo 2ghz, 2GB RAM, 80GB and all original packaging. The online estimator told me $455. I took it to Best Buy in the morning and they offered $266 saying that it was in fair condition. I walked out dejected. My wife told me to let her clean it up. She got to work and In the afternoon we took it to another Best Buy and they offered $476. I took the money and walked out with a new 13" MacBook Pro. Moral of the story is:

1. Listen to your wife
2. Buy yourself a Mr Clean Magic Eraser. That laptop looked brand new when my wife was done.
3. Apple products are worth the extra money cause they always hold their value.

Still in shock that this actually worked out.
 
Just got offered $566 for my 2007 Black Macbook 2.2 GHz C2D at a local Best Buy. Only took it in out of curiosity after reading this thread and wasn't really planning on trading it in but considering non of the 8 similar or better spec'd models I watched on eBay could even crack $500, I think I'll be upgrading to a nice new Mini while the getting is good. :D
