Just purchased a iMac 21.5 (NEWBIE!)

This is the first time I ever owned a iMac. Only heard of them, after just two days I'm simply amazed! I can't imagine going back to a pc.

Looking for any info, advice, websites, software and things to do with a new iMac 21.5.
We are really into photography and music.

I have not been this excited, since my first car!

Me too! Join the newbie club. Haha.

Photoshop, Final Cut Studio 2, Illustrator, & Screenflow are some great programs you could look into. They're all centered around photography/web design/& other stuff.

Screenflow is great for recording .. say tutorials! :)

Notational velocity is free & it's better than stickies! :D

Adium is a great program to connect all of your IM programs such as AIM, MSN, Yahoo, etc. :)
 
Hehe, I recommended a 21" iMac to a guy who had never owned a Mac before. Hes going ta buy it too. So do you guys reckon I made the right choice?:D
 
I got exactly the same Mac! Do you use an online backup service like carbonite? Or do you backup with Time Machine? Backing up your data is import to fix right away when setting up a Mac i think.

I already have photoshop (for PC), but was under the impression I would have to install a windows OS in the iMac to use it. Do you know anything about Aperture? Is it the equivilent to Adobe Photoshop?

If I could keep any programs from my PC, it would be PhotoShop and Rosetta Stone.

Have you checked for the yellow tint or other incessant display problems yet?

Start here and see if you detect any display issues such as dead pixels, yellow tint screen or grey bars along the perimeter of the screen. This current generation has had some unsavory display problems on an inordinate number of machines. You would be wise to inspect it before the return window expires.

I say unless the problems are bad to let the OP enjoy his new computer and don't freak them out! More iMacs are perfect than not:mad:

Photoshop is a pixel editor where as aperture is more of a color correction, sharpness, etc type editor, plus more importantly it houses/organizes your photos. Aperture has been gaining more and more features lately but right now PS and Aperture/Lightroom still complement each other rather than replace each other. You will find a use for both.

As for your PS copy though, call adobe. Last I checked, you could switch platforms for a nominal fee. Ie if you have a windows version and want the mac version, its like $50 and they will swap you out. Pretty good deal considering most companies (to my knowledge) offer no such thing.

Adobe will switch you from PC to MAC software for a fee. It took only 3 days for a friends new MAC sfotware to arrive.
 
welcome to the family:) i'm another 21.5"imac owner since it came out. REALLY LOVE IT!

It's used for the same purpose, but it's quite different.

I haven't really used Evernote since it seems overkill for my needs. It has many features like embedded images and image text recognition. It also has a much more visually complex interface.

Notational supports only rich text, so it is small and fast. The interface is elegantly simple, and practically all operations (creating notes, deleting, formatting, etc) can be done with the keyboard. The notes are not organized hierarchically, they are in a database. I found this a little unfamiliar at first, but in practice it feels effortless to use.

I suggest you try both, but as a nitpicking perfectionist, I have yet to find a gripe about Notational Velocity.

Well, to tell you the truth , i just use Notes. Evernote is overkill for me aswell.

But I will check out velocity. thanks for the heads up on that one ;)
