I haven't had a MacBook for years and was looking fwd to one with the new M architecture

A UK retailer discounted its M1 Pro 14" Pro when the new one came out, I got a further 15% off by buying a display model.
They look after their display models well, not one mark, fully boxed, 2 year guarantee. I also think most people browsing in the shop tend to play on the air or basic pro, the 14 and 16 M1 Pro are a bit of a minority pursuit at a mostly clothing and fashion department store

So Basically I have bought a "new" 16gb, 512gb, M1 Pro, 14" MacBook for the price of a new 8bg, 256gb, M2, 13" MacBook
In addition it has a SD card slot and 3 USB-C, which I need as I am a photo editor, without having to carry around dongles.

I think it's a really good deal. According to everything I have read of real world tests, the 14" MacBook M1 Pro is anything between 6% and 80% faster than the basic or enhanced 13" MacBook Pro M2 in multi cpu mode. It only lags in single cpu mode against the M2 at around 11%, depending on the app. And the extra screen size, SD card and USB-C ports are worth the price of admission :)

Hopefully I haven't missed anything!

I have a new Windows Intel i5 14th generation desktop with 16gb and a nvidia rx graphics card. The good news is that this macbook seems to have at least the same speed in photo editing, the screen is also very high quality - quite difficult to achieve this in a Windows laptop, so now I have a high power mobile platform for editing at quite a reasonable cost, which is great.

As a fellow who owns a 14 M1 Pro MBP, all I can say is enjoy your new device! Once you go XDR you can’t go back.

Yes, I think the best value today is with discounted or Apple-refurbished M1 MBPs. Enjoy!

I got mine for £1300 last July from Amazon. Brand new/boxed etc. I thought it might have been a refurb for the price, but for 3 days that was the price. Also pay in 5 instalments. win win lol.
No regrets at all, even with the new one now out.

I bought used 16" M1 Pro 32GB 1TB few days ago to replace my 13" M1.

Was opting for a 14" M2 Pro, but the extra money for the small cpu bump didn't feel like it was worth it.

I don't think you'll regret it at all, these are great :)

Also 14" M2 Pro's are throttled. :)

Congrats, I did the same myself, bought a refurbished MBP 14" M1 Pro with 16/512. Was tossing up between the refurbished 14" and refurbished 16" but when I discovered I needed to fork out an extra $600 for the same 16/512 spec, I decided it wasn't worth it for my use case!
