3 days ago bought the following refurbished from Apple Store:

2019 27 inch iMac
3.0 GHz 6 core i5
32 GB memory
1TB SSD
Radeon Pro 570X

$2459

I have about 10 days to return if I want to.

I am replacing my mid 2011 21.5 iMac that is still working but feel I can’t avoid the stupendously beautiful 27 inch 5K option any longer.

I admit I do very basic stuff...browsing, email, spreadsheets, word processing, and a bit of photo editing, with the plan to start some basic video editing also.

The 2019 refurb model I have maxes out at 32 GB which is more than enough now but if I live long enough to keep it as long as I have the 2011, would it be reasonable to return the new refurb and hopefully buy a 2020 not knowing if the new 2020 will have non user replaceable RAM And not knowing the cost of the 2020?

My budget is $2500 or so and I realize the 2019 refurb Is a very powerful machine but having the 2020 model keeps rumbling around in my head.

I appreciate your thoughts.

If you wait for the 2020 iMac, you're going to lose your return window for the refurb. You bought an amazing iMac config that will last you for many, many years. You can feel confident with the choice you made. There's always going to be something new from Apple to tempt you and make you question your choice. Stay strong with your 2019 and enjoy the heck out of it (and the refurb savings you got too).

The machine you bought will handle all this quite easily for years to come. The 5K iMac is a gorgeous and capable Mac, and the specs on the one you got are pretty generous.

There's always gonna be some new rumored Mac on the horizon.

I have made up my mind I will go for the base 2019 5k and use an M2 NVMe SSD external drive as the OS
And get a nice new computer. :)

If you are happy with it, stick with it. It has a good spec on that with a 1tb SSD. Plus the fact it can support 128 GB of ram:rolleyes:Who would want that much anyway,32gb will be plenty for what you want to do i should think.

Most of us have over the years.

Keep the 2019.
It's well-equipped and should run fine for a long time.

I wouldn't buy an ARM Mac until they get the bugs worked out, and until there's enough software that's been re-written for it. Having said that, I probably won't buy one for quite a while.

I prefer the OS as it is now, and I still have a lot of 32-bit apps I want to keep using "into the future"...
