it's funny crap i told them to look closely but they just look for a regular distance

I would dispute the restocking fee with your credit card company. I did that when the Apple store refused to waive the restocking fee on one of the first generation MBPs which was warped, whining and burning hot. The CC company immediately reversed the charge without any problems. Worth a try.

Don't pay the reverse fee. Call your Credit Card company and dispute it. Also, what are you going to do now? Are you going to buy another Mac or what?

You mean there were dead pixels? I don't get what the problem was. Why not get a replacement?

dead and stuck pixels, especially in a dark room with a black background if I look close to the screen i can see bright dots stand out in the black background like little stars you see on a nice evening, its not just me even my sister in-law can see them, it's frustrating crap can't believed my 1st Mac ended up like this
i used the $400 annual fee american express platinum charge card, and hope its customer service reps can help me like your credit card company helped you PDE

From what I can gather from their post they refused to give a replacement as the machine was within spec?

the Apple genius bar person said if its 7 with in 1 square inch or inch then they can do something about it but if not, it doesn't matter if you have 10 or 20 as long as it's no 7 or more close or near by, then they will do nothing

In that case, you've got to find a way to kill pixels around the area where you're having the problem.

Dumb question perhaps, but did you ever use Boot Camp to install a Windows partition on your MacBook Pro? There's a freeware utility called UDPixel which you can run in Windows and it can permanently repair broken pixels on your LCD display by rapidly flashing various colors across the screen. Supposedly it works by forcing the "on/off" switch inside the broken pixel or something.

been there done that, it didn't work

so let me see if I understand this...
If I go buy a brand new macbook pro and find on the first day that there are 1 or 2 dead pixels on the screen, they will charge me a restocking fee if I try to return it?

yes, not just 1 or 2, even if 10 or 20 pop up as long as they are not close or near by together with 7 or more, according to the Genius Bar tech guy you will have to be stuck with it until it gets worst

wow I think I'm actually scared to go buy my first macbook pro at the store now...LOL
Don't I have 14 days, no questions asked, return period or something??

nope, whether or not an item is item is defective or not will be according to the store ppl not you, if they said its not there then you screwd

Is it possible to ship it back to apple if all else fails with the dudes at the store? I can't tolerate even 1 dead pixel...if I see that its there I will always focus on it :(
If i find a perfect machine on the flood showcase would they let me purchase one of those, at full price? just to make sure I got a perfect one?

thanks for the info man!

I really hate to point out grammar, but if you've got the credit history and the need to have a credit card with a $400 Annual Fee, one would figure you wouldn't type like the average myspace-using American teenager.

As for the rule, it sounds like you're having a problem with stuck and not dead pixels, although people have been able to get replacements with having one or two dead pixels by dealing nicely with the geniuses, having a rule saying you need seven or more in one square inch is just insane.

Which Apple Store did you go to? Some apple stores are really nice and some have horrible services. I learned the hard way not to go to this one close to mine. Every time I make an appointment with the mac genius, I always have to wait for at least 30 mins past the scheduled time. A mac specialist asked all the ladies around me if they need help despite I was the one that wanted to buy a computer. I'm definitely not going to that store ever again. I will drive 30 mins longer to get good service and be treated like how I should be.

People know me well will tell you that I am probably the least likely person to complain about anything. For example when I bought my 1st brand new car on a friday night, I drove straight back to my house and then I didn't drived it until the following sunday morning when my brother noticed 2 scratches covered with white paint and a dent located above the left head light. I thought about going back to the dealership but ended up let it left like that even til today, because I hate arguing with the dealership back and forth when they can blame the problem on me like I always believed what happen if I am in an argument :( . I guess that made me look a little pathetic by brought that MBP back to the store isn't it.

My ACD had a defect in the LCD, so I took it to my local apple store to have it checked out. They said that they would replace the LCD under warranty, so I was happy. That is until I got it back a few days later, with a new LCD panel, and 5 stuck pixels to go with it. My original LCD had no dead or stuck pixels. I immediately called Applecare and complained, in a nice way. I basically told them I was pretty disappointed with my replacement LCD, and that if I'd have known the new one would have 5 stuck pixels(4 white, 1 red), I would have just kept the original one. After holding for a few minutes the representative told me that they would replace the LCD again, and make sure the new one had no dead or stuck pixels. GO APPLE! I think a lot depends on who you talk to, and how you talk to them.

This is why I honestly never suggest that anyone become an early adopter when it comes to any computer hardware. Apple is usually (from my experience) pretty reliable when it comes to replacing things; but people have obviously been screwed over before. My MBP isn't SR, but it's rock-solid with absolutely no problems. I waited until the kinks were worked out.

I first told the tech guy from the Genius Bar about the problem i encountered and this is my first mac computer in a very nice tone then asked him is there anything he can help me about it. The person from the Genius Bar said well can you show me the dots so I did even under those bright lights in the Apple store, and he said I can't see them but still if there weren't 7 or more bad pixels near around in a certain area then we can't do anything about it and that's Apple standard specification on bad pixels.

I said well you will see it more clearly if it's place in a darker room with the black background screen and he did that but I noticed none of the Apple ppl looking at the MBP with the distance I told them in order to see those dots. What they did was just just kept flipping through different color screens and just said they didn't see what I was talking about, which I already said there are 2 shown in the color backgrounds and bunch in the black background. People can say maybe there isn't a problem probably just me manifested those dots, but I had my sister in-law looked at it and she noticed those bad pixels too, I didn't told her the problem just asked her if she sees anything on the screen.

Finally I just gave up and asked them can I get a refund and please charged me the 10% restocking fees.

Hi Guys,
Just wanna correct this...

If your in the UK, then YES!! You have fourteen days (cooling off period) in which you can return and exchange your purchases, and because it's the UK, there are no restocking fees. However, cheque and cash purchases over £250 will only be refunded via a Bank Transfer which can take upto ten working days. Refunds doesn't apply to any software which has been opened. (for AppleStore UK) Then you have your statutory rights too! Regarding fit for uses, etc.
