As we (hopefully) near a much-needed refresh of the Apple iMac product line, many consumers are looking elsewhere. The horrific launch of the refreshed MacBook Pro had led many professionals, and others, to ponder the seriousness of Apple's Design Team with the "courageous" absence of vital I/O ports and features we have learned to grow and love.
My most favorite response to the MacBook Pro lack of ports/change to all USB-C was that of Jacob Kastrenakes from The Verge who stated "USB-C is the future, but the MacBook Pro is in the present."
Walt Mossberg has also commented on the change, stating that "this is what Apple is offering. Take it or leave it."
Well, that leads me to believe that the refreshed iMac may have a slew of USB-C ports, a much higher price tag, and God knows what else.
Then, there's the newly announced Microsoft Surface Studio. Microsoft has really stepped up their game as of late with the Surface Book and the Surface Studio. They're totally copying Apple's model (retail stores, aluminum chassis, built-in malware protection), and...I think they've officially surpassed the copy machine and have started innovating on their own. The Surface Studio's tilt, dial, and touchscreen is absolutely brilliant and innovative for many current iMac users seeking further innovation in design and workflow.
I think Apple needs to consider the desires of their consumers, not just the desires of their design team.
