Hi All,

I just set up Hotmail on M1 Mail App

One of the options was what to give access to:
1. Mail
2. Notes

Q1) Why do I need NOTES allowed access?

Q2) If necessary - How do I go back to add this setting in?

Hope you can advise
Martin

This is a bit of an anachronism. The built in iOS and macOS Notes apps actually support synchronising notes via email accounts like Outlook, as well as via iCloud.

I think most people just use iCloud with the Apple Notes app, but if you'd like to try it with Outlook then you just open the Notes app, click Notes in the menu bar, then Accounts, then click you Outlook account and tick the box next to "Notes". Outlook will then appear beneath iCloud in the sidebar in the Notes app.

The Hotmail note behavior is no different than Gmail, Yahoo, or AOL mail behavior. They are all using the old trick of treating notes as an e-mail draft on the IMAP server. They have been doing this for over a decade, nothing new.

You can shut this off in Internet Accounts if you want after you've successfully set up the account.

Notes on macOS and iOS using iCloud work differently. They are not stored in an iCloud IMAP folder, there's a separate discrete location for them.
