I have been super careful since buying my iphone on day one from the danbury, CT store. I may have dropped it once or twice but onto a soft surface like a rug or my foot. I was working on my truck and using my iphone to read wiring diagrams when it just slipped out of my hand.It fell no more than 1-1.5 feet but it was pavement that it fell on and it landed screen down. Now I have read about some fortunate people who got replacements for free but, was wondering there is a good way to "ask" for the free treatment. Should I just be completely upfront with exactly how it happened. It just sucks because im on a fixed income and really dont have the $200 to pony up. Also has anyone had any experience with the Danbury, CT Genius bar that could be of some Help.:(

It worked for my brother. He was getting out of my car and dropped his iPhone from about two feet. Put a huge crack in the screen. I called and made a Genius appointment for him the next day. Long story short, we show up, he's completely honest about how it happened and said he was ready to pony up the money for the repair but the Genius decided to replace the glass for free.

This was at the Southpark store in Charlotte, NC.

Give it a shot and be honest about it.
Sometimes I heard they do it for people for the first time only and if you're lucky you might walk away with a replacement for free.
If not its a $200 fee.

I went to the Apple store today, explained what happened and they gave me another phone!:D
