Ok so i am COMPLETELY new to programming and i am wanting to learn how to program on OS X and Iphone i want to start with the iphone. What should i do to teach my self how to do this. I am very dedicated and i have a fast nice imac that can handle all of this so thats obviously no problem. I was wondering if theres and developers out there that have any advice or how they started. Are there any books i need or videos i should watch. I would like to get into this as fun hobby. So if you guys wouldnt mind it would help me out alot.

Don't start with a specific OS or device target.

Learn general programming concepts first. Go to the library, and pick up two books on beginning to program, books that look interesting, any computer language will do, two different languages would be even better.

When the beginning programming books are too easy, then move on to learning about developing for a specific OS and device.

In the end, you will be able to develop interesting apps better and faster.

imho.

This is how I started:
HTML->Javascript->PHP->Java->C/C++->Objective-C

I just looked at example code and twiddled for days on end, but I'm into that kind-of stuff, so it worked for me. I came up with a simple idea for each langauge, and learned to impliment it by looking at open source code.
