Hey all,

Been looking at them for years, admiring the form factor. Finally decided to make the leap. I got a 24" 2.8 with the upgraded video card, wireless keyboard and mouse, and a 500 gig drive. And I have a friend in Cupertino so I got a decent deal as well.

Right now I'm trying to figure everything out. This is my first time using a Mac so I am still trying to figure out things like where do my files go. :)

I just learned that iDisk was not a local drive, thus why it wouldn't allow me to copy my files over.

So much to learn. Should be fun though. Loving it so far.

congrats on the switch... best technological decision I've ever made... so much in fact that I talked my sales manager into picking up the Apple line for our consumer electronics store... I did so well with it, I'm managing the department now!

Anyway, most of your downloaded files go to the downloads folder (stacks to the right in the dock, left of trash can), and most of your saved documents (word, pages, etc) go to the documents folder. I created a folder on my desktop to house other various files called 'folders' with various subfolders (for school and work and what not). It's pretty self explanatory once you get your bearings... spotlight is a great search tool. Also, you've already got the best resource of all... MacRumors! Enjoy! Oh, and don't forget you can modify the side bar in the Finder to include any folders you've created and what not, so that should simplify things a bit too when it comes to creating/saving documents and the such.

I'm starting to have some stability issues already. It's crashed on me twice and wouldn't come back from sleep mode this morning. Is this common? I thought Mac OSX was supposed to be more stable than Windows?

It generally is. (Vista and XP have been almost as stable for me) It's possible your computer has a hardware issue. I'd run by the Apple Store if at all possible. Or, you could call AppleCare. Make use of that one year warranty and 90 days of phone support!

Thanks. Tried the apple care and they had me do some sort of hardware reset. Seemed to fix the issue for now.
