Just Thought I Would Ask You Guys -- No Video Playback on 20" ACER

I just setup my new 20" widescreen LCD monitor from ACER. Awesome picture quality so far and no dead pixels! hooray!

But when I tried to open several different video files in both QT and VLC, and several differnet formats, there was no video. Just audio and a black screen where the video should have been. These files are good as I just watched some of them on my old dell CRT.

What's up?

I tried playing WoW and some youtube video and they worked. Are there drivers for my monitor? I have a 7600 256 GT. I also tried some video in iTunes and they look great!
EDIT: oh yeah. This is on XP.

Nothing. It's like I'm playing a video of just black frames. That's it. Its' totally weird.

I don't have any wmps. I even tried reinstalling VLC. No luck.
EDIT: Just got even weirder. Tried adding the file I've been testing (Mario Galaxy video) to iTunes and boom! it played just fine.

Updating QT player fixed QT. But not VLC. As an anime fan, I can't do w/o VLC. Any other suggestions?

Now an update. When I click on extended GUI interface in VLC video is "disabled". I enable it and still no picture.

Can't you get an equivalent to Perian for windows?

Can you try an old version of VLC?

Quick question. What is the Acer monitor hooked up to? Is it an Acer computer or an Apple computer? I'm just a little confused on that. It would help with the trouble shooting to know what your entire setup is.

in my first post I said it was XP. But it is a custom built pc to be more specific.

I was told to remove "Overlay video" in VLC and it worked. But I'm not quite satisfied with the video quality (although it's still pretty good and big ) I just notice some small things that haven't shown up before and don't on my macbook.

Didn't see that in the original post, my bad. Are you going full screen with the video or in a window? One reason for the poor video quality may be that your blowing it up onto a bigger screen. As a fellow anime fan, I know incodes can vary greatly from one video to another. For example a video may look great on my 13" Macbook, okay on my 17" desktop, and look like crap on my 32" lcd tv. You really notice the pixalation on lower resolution videos on bigger screens, ecspecially in darker scenes in animation.

My video card was wanting to run in 16 bit color mode. I changed it back to 32 bit and haven't had a single problem since. Sorry for the thread!
