Likely jailbrake only whenever that happens, but instead of backgrounding like on the iphone and switching to another app...

why not 2 open at once side by side in landscape mode?

As far as execution, it could be as simple as double tap the app you want on the left, then single tap the one you want on the right on your home screen.

Post which app combos you would use most.

This is exactly the thing I pondered in a post on my blog - a way for Apple to 'control' (and I mean that in a good way) the multi-tasking experience.

Reading most of the comments grousing about the lack of multi-tasking, it seems like 9x% of the scenarios most often described could be solved by either a 2 app or 4 app set up.
