Just to confirm: You do not need an internet connection to watch rented movies...

I have a vacation coming up and want to rent a few movies before I leave.

If I understand this correctly, the movies will be downloaded to the iPad prior to me leaving and then I have 30 days to start watching and 24 hours to finish watching a movie once I start.

The movies will work on the plane right? I do not need to start playing them hill on wifi or anything like that, correct?
 
just make sure you fully downloaded the movie. after that, you can watch it with no internet connection..

downloading movies on the ipad can take time though.
 
You are correct about the no need for internet once you download the rental to your iPad.

If you live in Canada you get 48hr to keep watching so if you aren't form the USA check your terms in your iTunes store.

That being said.....if you still have time the best option would be to go to a video store and rent the videos you want to take and then rip them to your MAC and transfer them to your iPad.

That way you have as much time as you need to watch them and if you really want to be a legal beagle you can delete them once you're done watching them.

I always thought 24hrs to watch a movie is BS. 48 hours would be so much better in so many different ways. Why does Canada get this feature but not us in America?
 
I don't understand what is wrong with 24 hours cap. Lots of people hate it. The way I see it though, start the movie only when you are ready. That's when the 24 hour time limit begins. Set aside a night with 3 hours free (worst case scenario). I can't understand the need for more than 24.

Well, someday you may understand if you have a wife or a girlfriend who falls asleep while watching a movie and you have to stop it and watch the rest later.

Also, when on vacation you may have small blocks of time (ie- in an airplane) that you could start a video and have to watch the rest later.

I'm not sure why Canada has the 48hr rule and the USA only has 24hr but I am positive (because I looked it up again on the iTunes conditions pages) that Canada has the extra time. Why wouldn't the USA have the same? Must be an industry or legal thing.

Because Americans always want MORE, MORE, MORE. With higher quality for less money. ;)

I'm thinking it started back in the late '90s...around the same time that napster came about.

but to be serious. I did say that to be legal you should delete the video once you've done watching it. Anything wrong with that?
