The wait was longer than expected, but it was so worth it. I felt amazed with what Apple has done with the new Vision Pro. The demo is so COOL! Especially, the spatial experiences of the dinosaur roaring at you, the seat gripping experience of the woman walking the tightrope and the NBA courtside experience! The spatial photos and videos made you feel like you were with them, like in front of them! The gestures and the controls are INCREDIBLY easy once you got used to pinching the fingers! The eye tracking is ultra precise, I can't imagine the extent of engineering that has gone into this magical, revolutionary piece of technology. It's a beautiful piece of hardware, I can't wait until it becomes more accessible in the future so more people can experience Apple Vision!

I just did the demo in Canada too. My experience is the opposite: the Vision Pro sucks in many ways.

I have a Quest and it really isn’t that much better. The Quest I haven’t used in a year. Pointless devices for all but a few things.

The initial hype you have… I had a bit of that on the first day that I got the Quest. The next day it started to become clear how stupid of a device it is.

Overall, VR is a cheap imitation of reality. Reality is the highest fidelity and I don’t need heavy ski goggles hanging off my face: I can eliminate that and have large 8 k screens in reality and mobile devices.

Spatial input on the AVP is exhausting. It’s slow compared to mouse input and imprecise and that is a major productivity killer. For entertainment it sucks too because… heavy goggles hanging off your face.

The immersive stuff is a novelty that wears off for many of us with VR headsets.

The design of the AVP with its external tethered battery is absurd.

I could go on…

There isn’t much to do with the AVP. It’s an overpriced piece of frivolous technology for many. I can only see niche/commercial applications and at its current price, it’s not making sense either.

Having an Oculus Rift and Gear VR headsets (not used for years), the VR immersive feeling even on low Rez content was fantastic.

However, I couldn’t use a device for more than an hour without a break, and would need time to decompress back to reality afterwards…..totally spaced out….😵‍💫

Not having tried AVP, I can’t fully comment, but feel it is more geared to AR…..
I am not interested in sitting in the lounge browsing web/mail while seeing TV in the room, I can just use my iPad.

As far as tech goes, it is cutting edge…kudos.
But try and hold your arms up for an hour in front of you.

I may consider the lower priced version next year.

While I’m a big fan of the Vision Pro, I respect the fact that you actually tried it before expressing your thoughts and you stayed focus on the product rather than the people who buy them.

Honestly man I’ve had a quest 3 since Christmas and with the v67 update, I kinda agree. The quest is minimally worse than the Vision Pro. I’m kinda disappointed by the pass through on my Vision Pro. It’s minimally better than quest, when using both in lower light situations (even with the visionOS 2.0 software).

I guess I need to explore my AVP more but my initial thought is the quest definitely holds its own vs the Vision Pro.

These people that are absolutely blown away by the Vision Pro either must not have tried a quest 3 or am seeing a bunch of stuff I’m not seeing….or they’re just being hypebeasts.

Tbh, having tried the Apple Vision Pro, it’s my first VR/AR experience in a long time. Sure I have tried VR before,(as in VR arcades at malls) but it wasn’t as mind blowing as the Apple Vision Pro. I admit I may be hyping up this because I think it’s revolutionary compared to the current crop of VR headsets. Especially when you can control the system with just your eyes and fingers whereas most other current VR headsets have controllers.

Yeah it’s definitely impressive. The software integration is considerably better than the quest imo. The one big thing I miss on the AVP is a dedicated YouTube app.

Eye tracking is more convenient than using controllers but can be temperamental at times. I think having both solidifies my opinion that the quest 3 is an absolute steal at $500. The AVP might be 15-20% better than a quest 3 but it sure as hell isn’t 7x better.

There is eye and hand tracking in other VR headsets. Apple has a good implementation of it but they don’t own that input method anymore than they do multi-touch.

Compared to more expensive VR headsets, the AVP holds up pretty well but also falls short in areas like field of view and resolution. In fact, the AVP field of view is not great…

I'm sure you know about it, but on the off chance you missed it, check out Juno for a YouTube app. It's obviously not the same as a native YouTube app, but it works well for me.
