I had an interesting thing happen. My mouse froze, totally on my IMac and I was really puzzled/ I changed the batteries, tried this and that and finally just unplugged it and it all came back I did not know that you must totally unplug form electric to really reset. Live and learn I guess...

Actually that is NOT what you do. You can switch off your computer by using the keyboard, you can also use the keyboard to force quit and application (Command + Option + Escape) or as a very last resort hold down the power button for about 3-4 seconds. NEVER EVER EVER unplug your computer to shut it down unless you want to damage the OS.

Yes, I agree. Never EVER just unplug a computer. It can mess up the hard drive doing that. If you have to do a hard shutdown, use the power button on the back.

Well, thanks for the advice, after the fact. I tried the button on the back, several times in fact and shut it down but the mouse problem remained. I am not familiar with all the things one can do with the keyboard which would be nice to know. I was desperate to get things right. Regardless of possibilities, they are now.
