I never updated to Monterey for my 2017 iMac. Big Sur was very stable and I just need an OS to stay out of the way. But I wanted to take advantage of Apple's Advanced Data Protection for iCloud which is only available on Ventura, and my iMac was the last device not running the most recent OS.

As with all major updates, I held my breath during the process. (I may now hold the free diving record on land.) I hope I'm not tempting fate, but so far everything seems to be working as it was before the update. I'm just posting this since we most often hear of problems.

@Smoothie Thanks for sharing. By any chance, do you use an external monitor, docking station, any attached drives?

My 2 x 2020 Intel-based MacBook Pro laptops work perfectly with Big Sur 11.7.2. Not a single issue.

Waiting for Ventura 13.2 (may be) or 13.3 (likely) to upgrade.

The only external devices I use are drives, and they were all dismounted before I did the update. I just finished setting up Advanced Data Protection for iCloud. It required that I remove a couple of old devices from iCloud which I hadn't used or updated in years.
