After seeing everyone getting soooo depressed about their macbook pros, thought i would add my experiences about just updating my macbook.

My macbook is a 2.0 CD that i got very near when the C2D were released. I brought it in the NY store and choose a white book with 1gb of ram and 80gb of hard drive. Thought it would be best to choose this over the normal white one which had 512mb of ram and 60gb hard drive!

So i ordered a few days ago 2gb of ram and a 250gb 2.5" hard drive. It came this morning, only got home from work about 2 hours ago. The ram was £44 and the hard drive was about £118, both from dabs.com (i love that site!).

Installing it was as simple as those youtube videos make it look, the hard drive was even easier than the ram to fit! Tried it first with just the ram, and windows vista and mac osx both picked it up fine, and the hard drive, just have mac osx on it so far, and its all good!

Was tempted to look at buying a mbp, but after seeing the recent trouble i think i'll wait atleast 12 months before i do get one. Until then this has certainly increased the life and use of my macbook!

Thank you, you just saved me £25. Ordered RAM from crucial for £70 only to find the same stick for £45 at Dabs.

Haha, yeah i kept watching crucial for about 3 months, keeping an eye on the price of ram. It came down to as cheap as £50 not to long ago. But its nearly £60 the last time i checked.

The ram is in my pc and is perfect, not a single problem.

I kept wanting to see if someone has done what i did (especially with the big hard drive). So thought i would post this to help anyone, glad it has saved you money!

A person after my own heart, I too ordered the same from Dabs and upgraded yesterday. Brilliant. :D

However, wait for it, I actually ordered two of the 250GB drives and have a Macbook Pro on order and when that comes ( Probaly in September !!!) it will get the same treatment (Gulp).

Curious did you get the Western Digital Scorpio, if so how does it perform. Quiet and fast?

I'm looking to add more ram to my macbook. Specifically which ram did you put in? what brands/type to people recommend?
thanks

I'm planning on updating my 80GB drive with a Western Digital Scorpio 250GB drive just as soon as Leopard is released. Hopefully the price will have drop a little by October too :D Has changing the HDD had any effect on the battery life for better or worse?

cheapest place to get RAM in us is oempcworld or macsales.com... UK prices always more expensive:cool:
