You need a 2014 iMac or newer, the list you saw must have been wrong.

Sorry @abr88, @CoastalOR is correct. I too have the same timeframe iMac and got really sad when I realized I couldn't upgrade to Big Sur. 
Officially not supported.
But if you are keen and can put up with some fiddling, it can be patched to install Big Sur.

Nope. 2014 and newer for iMacs. There apparently are some workarounds, but I wouldn't do that if that's your primary Mac.
