That's rather amusing

I've never quite understood why the battery is welded to part of the casing and there isn't just a standalone battery and a compartment cover.

Just goes to show how good quality Apple's products are. My PowerBook used to go with me everywhere and took a beating, still works perfectly. Same goes for my iPod, can't count the number of times its been dropped and it still works like its brand new!

Yes, I bought a used iBook G4 that looked like that and a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser + Radtech IceCream made it look new!
