So I have been looking to add a MacBook Air to my Mac family for sometime. I have a MacBook Pro 2.2ghz and a iMac 24" 2.8ghz but felt like I needed something more portable other than the MBP. I was looking at eBay recently and noticed that if you searched through live.com you could get a cashback reward if you bought using a buy-it-now option and paid through Paypal. I was able to get this auction for $1325 shipped since I saved $250 using the live.com/ebay deal. :D

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=250264675257&ssPageName=STRK:MEWN:IT&ih=015

He lives just a couple hours away from me so shipping should not take but a couple days. I can't wait to try this computer out! Hopefully it will be problem free as he said in a email. Any suggestions on how or what to check on for known MacBook Air problems once I receive it?

It says it sold for $1575?

Yeah it did but the live.com/ebay deal allows up to $250 cash back which is what I got.

Just go to http://www.live.com and search for say "MacBook Air"

Click on the link that pops up for MacBook Air's on eBay.

You have 1 hour to make a purchase using buy-it-now only

Buy the item and pay using Paypal. It will show your savings during checkout. The percentage off varies hour to hour. I got 20% but it can go up or down. The maximum you can save is $250 and can only be used 3 times using the same Paypal account.

You will get a email after you have paid in your eBay account asking you to sign up for a live.com cash back account. My current hotmail account was already enough to get me in.

You then wait up to 60 days for your money. They say the waiting period is so you have a chance to return the item.

Once the waiting period is over you get your money and transfer it to your Paypal or bank account. Easy and simple.

Yes I changed the post after I decided to actually read your post instead of posting like a blind fool

Anyway, $1575 he got?

Hmmm maybe I'll sell mine :D

No, it's great

An oddly enough, it's been a bit better since the 10.4.3 update , for some reason

I just might like $1575 cash in hand that's all :)

I went for one too off ebay - we will see if it actually shows up. But I got a good deal - $1600 - $250 cash back for a new 1.6 MBA and a Superdrive. I was originally going to wait until the next revision but this deal was too good to pass up. The resale value will be high enough to justify it and I also sold my XBOX 360 yesterday so the cash was burning a hole in my pocket.

This will be my first mac and I am pretty excited about it, been lurking these forums for several years.

Sounds like a nice deal. What is the Live thing about?

You search on live.com for something like cheap ipods or baby cribs and then you have to click on the live advertisement at the top linking to an ebay buy it now auction with a cashback sign (usually 20-25%).

Then you go on ebay and search for whatever product you want, in this case MBA - and look at the buy it now's (make sure the cash back banner is on the top of the ebay search screen). You have to buy using a paypal account and once you hit buy it now the link will tell you if you qualify for cash back and the amount (the max at any one time is $250). Then you pay with your paypal, get a message from M$ within 24 hours about the cash back and within 60 days you get the $.

Not a perfect system but works and you can get some great deals on Apple products - the kicker is M$ is paying for the discount.

Had the seller sold many big ticket items or was it sketchy until the MBA actually showed up?

awesome deal. i got my imac a couple weeks ago when the live.com cashback was like 15% and then used the 10% ebay coupon (now expired).

i saved $225 with cashback and $100 with the ebay coupon. so the buy it now was for like $1499, and the coupons brought it all the way to $1230 for a 2.4 24" alum imac with 4gb ram

i wanted to get a macbook air too..maybe on the next promotion. hope you enjoy it! this was my first imac - so i'm still trying to get the hang of everything!

I'd recommend just to set up the applecare asap and check the status of it. I actually called apple and made sure the computer was registered under my name, (still have to call and register the extended warranty..once it arrives from amazon.) anyway, that'll give you peace of mind, and if anything does happen, you'll be good.

Well I got the laptop yesterday and everything was just as described. The guy who I thought was in IL was actually stationed with the Navy in Japan so it threw me for a loop when I saw where it was from.

I love the MacBook Air so far and my MacBook Pro will be on ebay soon. Maybe someone will take advantage of the deal when they buy my computer.

Yeah, I just bought a Macbook myself off of there w/ the discount. I'll end up paying only $765 for a brand new machine. I'm pretty excited, considering the Mac I'm using now is a 933 MHZ Power Mac G4.:)
