Yes, ANOTHER iMac thread (but it could apply to any Apples). Ha. It should be consolodated into a big iMac-specific buyer's guide, sheesh.

So yeah, I was wondering, it sounded dumb to me, but I heard somewhere that there was some sort of policy that you could return/exchange a very recently purchased Apple if it got a speed bump right after you bought it. Is this (PLEASE!) true? If so (PLEASE!), is the offer through Apple, or some reseller?

God, this is driving me CRAZY.
(Will the iMac get a Merom/Conroe update BEFORE September?)

I think you might be able to within 14 days if the box is still unopened. After that (or if you opened the box), they'll hit you with a 10% re-stocking fee.

Merom is expected for August/September so I doubt it.

So, I should probably not worry about it, go ahead and get it and satisfy my unhealthy urges, then if they do release Conroe in iMacs, later down the line I should be able to drop a Conroe in the place of the Core Duo, right? I heard the slots were the same...

Eric: 10% doesn't sound too bad, then again, that's like $240... Hmmm...

Conroe uses almost double the power of current Core Duos and even more than G5s so it is no longer expected to be put in the iMac.

I read that it used 40% less...?
And the G5 was a hot processor, yet it was in an iMac..
Well anyway, in theory, I should be able to switch out WHATEVER they update the iMac with whatever I buy, right? Like the pins are the same..?
