My first mac
I'm getting an older G3 300 ibook and am wondering how well the Xvid and Divx will work on it it's got 320mb of ram.

Smooth choppy????

that sucks. I have a older TOshiba P2 300 that runs Divx and Xivd perfectly

lol @ p2/300 Yeah it plays Divx if the file is a 300kps stream. you'll get about the same performance on the iBook as the P2... poor on anything worth watching.

NO any movie you download works fine on my P2 i dont know the stats but no skips and smooth

That might work on someone else, but I don't have to believe you right? Just checking :)

DivX Minimum Requirements
DivX®

Windows
Pentium II 450 processor or equivalent

Mac
400Mhz G3 or faster

but like I said, what ever runs on that P2/300 will run on the iBook 300. Because they are both under spec for doing anything with DivX

minimum requirement mean crap all. Anyways i dont have to prove myself to you.
