Justifying owning both an ipad air and SP3

Just want to ask, is there any incentive or validable reason in keeping my 16gb ipad air when I have SP3? The air is smaller, lighter, and some may debate its more ideal when used as a reading device. It also has the App store and all the games (which I rarely access the store, but theres only a couple apps/games I play on occasion).

But is it enough to warrant having a $300-320 device laying around the house? (thats how much I would resell it for). I paid $400 for it a year ago.

For on the couch/in bed surfing and movie watching I actually prefer the bigger screen of the SP3. After a few days using the SP3, I found it hard to go back to the ipad. I dont find the SP3 heavy at all. Sure the ipad air is much more comfy to use when standing or holding the ipad up like a controller. But even then Ive found since ive owned the air, 9/10 times I will lay the thing down on something to type. I sometimes did hold it up (like I always did with the mini) without resting it and typed with the split keyboard, but I found it to be a nousense over time.

Also since I got my 6.4" screen phone, I havent had much reason at all to bringing out my air with me when commuting or out and about. I just use my phone now since the screen is big enough for spurts here and here. Any long sessions and I will still prefer a bigger device to come with me.

You answered your question not once, but four times, while at the same time inventorying your devices. I find zero use for an iPad Air, iPad Mini, iPhone 6+, and SP3. I am one person who can carry a device from room to room if need be. I can state with a high level of certainty that of the 4 devices you show you own, two would sit and collect dust. A waste of money if you ask me.

You stated the following reasons that are reason enough for me, a complete stranger, to make a choice for you:

The answer seems clear to me.

My hair is wet, I am thinking I may go blow it dry...or should I? If I don't then it isn't nearly as pretty, but doing so eats up about 15 more minutes of my time. I'm conflicted.

I guess I was just trying to find a reason to keep it because I do still really like the device, but if im not going to use it very much then its just money sitting there when it can be put to other use like you said.

Maybe, i am not too sure about that, but everyone is different!

I have 2 tablets 1 Android tablet Samsung Galaxy Tab Pro 8.4 and a 11.6 inch Windows 8 tablet Acer Iconia W700(I5 Core).

And i use each of them every day and my Galaxy Tab Pro 8.4 and my Acer Iconia W700 each has it own uses. For example my Galaxy Tab Pro 8.4 is great for when i on the go and media consumption and the portablity is very good/mobile and my Acer Iconia W700 is great at home and it's good for media consumption and content creation like video editing which i do when i have spare time but for it's potablity is not as good compared to my Galaxy Tab Pro 8.4 and it has a FULL OS Windows 8 and is a powerful PC in a portable tablet form factor.

When i go on holiday i always bring both(Galaxy Tab Pro 8.4 and Acer Iconia W700) with me.


So OP you can use your Ipad Air for when you are on the go and for media consumption and you can use your Surface Pro 3 at home for media consumption and content creation(if you do that).

Anyway it is your choice, Hope this helps!

I considered this, but it would kill my usage of the SP3 (SP3 is what i want to carry around) and even then my phone since it has a 6.4" screen can fill the void a lot of times when on the go. The thing is absolutely huge. Too much overlap between my phone, ipad and SP3 so i will sell the air.

My iPad collects dust now since getting the SP3. iPad is just a consumption device compared to the SP3 that does the role of consumption, productivity and creativity. Even for consumption the SP3 is better with dual stereo speakers, larger more usable 12" display, Chrome full browser experience with Adblock Plus extension to be free of annoying ads, etc. Unless you're a gadget collector there's no benefit in keeping it. I'd sell it and get the SP3 docking station or Galaxy Note 3/4 to have a pocketable precision pen device that syncs with OneNote.

If you are satisfied with using the SP3 as a tablet, then it doesn't make any sense to keep the Air. I think that the SP3 concept and form-factor are terrific and look forward to the day that I can pick up another Surface device. (hopefully when the tablet side of things reaches a level that is useful for me)

Just sold my ipad air, got $325 for it with my custom case. Its too bad i didnt sell it before the massive price drop on the air 1, but oh well...I only paid $447 for it with the case (and tax in) the month it came out. $120 to use it for one year is an alright deal, basically $10/month.

I just did the same thing, sold my Air, purchased an Air2. I also picked up a SP3 I5. Couple problems/observations in comparing the two. BATTERY LIFE being the biggest one. Are you using Google Chrome 32Bit or Canary 64Bit? On my SP3 the 32Bit text is kinda fuzzy, I tried adjusting the clear type settings, no change. The 64bit doesn't have that problem. Internet Explorer compared to Safari, for me I prefer Safari though the 8.1 an error occurred and reload is getting old. Maybe I have a bad SP3 but when I watch an iTunes movie the picture quality is not very good.

My SP3 is razor sharp and its 64bit. You might want to swap yours for another one. The text in all browsers shouldnt be blurry at all.

That i agree, ios apps would be the reason to keep an ipad. However, i only use 3 apps on it (all which can be had on android and the MS store) and 1 game that I also have on my phone cause its not up on the MS store.

Sure i would prefer to play my one game on the bigger ipad screen over my phone but its not worth $325 just for that. I cant handle the smaller screen as I dont even play the game often anwyays.

Not needed since you can run it on BlueStacks Android emulator for Windows on SP3.

Also BlueStacks runs apps pixelated and makes the SP3 fan spin

As long as you have a use for each device I don't see the problem. Sell the Air and if you end up missing it buy another one.

IMO the SP is an unruly, so-so tablet & a top-heavy, so-so laptop. You can get an i7, but it throttles making i7 pointless. Calibration, scaling, etc. issues. The pad is imprecise. There is no place to store the pen on the device (stick it to the side of the device...). It's not popular because it's not a good value. So late to the game but still can't get it right

More power to those who like it. More competition would be good for all of us, but MS always worries me because as soon as they get enough market share they revert to their slimy practices like undermining standards stifling progress for everyone (i.e., IE).
