If it rings I can take it out and answer without having to unfold it.
I think it would be a situation of wait for the 2nd year model and have them work out all the kinks but it’s pretty interesting concept. I was a doubter but why not let’s see what Samsung can come up with and Apple can be inspired to follow. If Apple release a foldable iPhone in 2020, would you buy one?
ok if it’s over 1300 I’m like forget!!!! That’s too much I got a mortgage. The poll should be:
If a 128 GB foldable iPhone starts at $1999-2499+ ex taxes, will you bite?
Ok how about a 4.7 iPhone that folds to twice its size. That be great. But I hope the each “sandwich” is super thin.If Apple release this device, I hope they’d realize a regular size iPhone (5’8/6.1/6.5 inch screen) that is not foldable because I do not want one.
IF you ever used an iPad mini you know how nice a screen the size of 8" really is.Why do I need to unfold or fold my phone? The space gray slab I have right now fits right in my pocket. If it rings I can take it out and answer without having to unfold it. When I'm done it can go right back in my pocket, without having to be folded.
If people want a folding phone why don't they just go back and buy a flip phone. Flip phones fold. And guess what? They'll be cheaper.
I would say that's a somewhat dangerous viewpoint. Many probably remember what then Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer said about the iPhone:I don't see them as much more than a gimmick at this point. Apple would need to do a lot of R&D before releasing something like this.
That's a bit dismissive. Can there be "too many parts" in a mobile device? Wouldn't it have as many parts as an iPad Pro or Mini?Too many parts. And it’s gonna run tablet mode iOS when unfolded? So a folding iPad mini? Battery would be crazy. But apple will make it too thin. I’m good.

Maybe you don't need to unfold it to answer calls though. You'd only need to unfold it when reading documents, web pages, watching movies, gaming etc.
If it's thin enough, & if the unfolded screen was larger than what was on show at the Samsung DC today, & if the battery life was acceptable, I'd be interested.
Apple may wait & release a very refined (& $$$) version of it, when the tech is ready...& I'm very curious to see the result.
I am willing to concede that my environment and the way I use my devices blinds me to whatever benefit a foldable device may offer.IF you ever used an iPad mini you know how nice a screen the size of 8" really is.
Its not needed for everyday things also you dont have to always unfold it you just use the normal screen when you dont want a full screen.
Would you not be interested if apple can release something as thick as an iPhone XR(8.3mm when folded). So unfolded the full tablet size of the device is 4.1mm thick?
It sounds like a really good experience if you've ever used an iPad mini and appreciate the size real estate. Also think of multitasking like a real computer. Havent separate apps open on the same screen.
Theres a lot of reasons why this could be huge for the future.
A foldable phone would be too much work, for me at least. If I want a phone, I'll buy a phone. If I want a tablet, I'll buy a tablet. Having a viewscreen that folds means implementing an unnecessary point of failure directly into the product. Ballmer wasn't speaking from a physics point of view, he was speaking from a loyalty point of view.I would say that's a somewhat dangerous viewpoint. Many probably remember what then Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer said about the iPhone:
What I saw in the Samsung keynote was a product pretty near completion, and if they make an overall good phone out of it I may buy my first ever Samsung.
