So a couple years back I had a Mobile Me account which I have since deactivated thinking it was a waste of money. I'd like to use the old email address if possible, but it seems like it will only let me if the account is currently active.

Anyone know a way I can retain the old address while not having a currently active Mobile Me account?

Apple's own Tech Note says:

• Fifteen days after expiration, you will lose access to MobileMe Mail and any mail sent to that account will be returned to the sender.
• Fifteen days after expiration, your online data at me.com will be deleted.

I'm not actually interested in any mail and/or data associated with the old account. I just liked the email address because it mimicked my gmail one and was hoping to keep that.

Apple has retained my old .me address because if I try to sign in it says the account is not active.

Interestingly enough, it says I CAN use this account ID for other services and to "learn more." (see attached) When I click it takes me to an iCloud page. So somehow I feel like I should be able to do it, but I can't figure it out.

Don't ask if you don't want answers.

Not sure what you mean by that. Of course I want answers, otherwise why would I post in the first place?

I was just trying to clarify my original post since it seems I was misunderstood with what I was after. Your response made a lot of sense if I was after keeping my old emails. But since I am not, I thought I should clarify.

Just to follow up on this. I tried something super simple and it worked. I just tried to log into iCloud with my old .me Apple ID and it worked.
