Apple and Microsoft will extend the their font licensing agreement, giving Apple customers use of the latest Microsoft Windows core fonts.

The agreement, which has been in place for years, gives Mac users the ability to view fonts such as Times New Roman, Arial and Verdana on the Web and in software applications.

“Apple customers, developers and Web designers can safely specify fonts knowing that their documents, presentations and Web pages will appear as they are meant to be seen on screen and in print,” the companies said in a joint release on Thursday.

this is ashame really, i would sort of like to see everything in courier.

My bet is $0.00. The TrueType fonts in the set of Windows core set are not original to Windows, but were licensed from font foundries such as Monotype. This report strikes me as non-news. The underlying technology in Microsoft-developed TrueType fonts comes from Apple. At most, this new agreement reassures users of either platform that they need have no concerns about their fonts.

For Safari, open up TextEdit change the mode to 'plain text' and type this in:

body {
	font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;
}

Save it as *.css (anything with a .css extension). Then in Safari go Safari --> Preferences --> Advanced and attach the stylesheet you must made

Apple should ditch arial and substitute helveitica/helvetica neue system-wide (i.e. whenever a webpage, word doc, etc. calls for it). It would make the web look much nicer
