Hey all, just got a new blackbook and was wondering if anyone on these boards could recommend some ways to keep it clean and pristine.

I have a microfiber cloth that apple gave me, but that's it.

Thanks!

I have a Radtech screensaverz cloth. Works well for wiping the screen and wiping grease and smudges from the casing. I had one that is for the 15in powerbook because it is bigger than the macbook one, but still fits inside when you close it.

well, i ordered a bestskinsever.com skin and so i won't need to worry about keeping the palm guards, track pad, mouse button clean, but the screen and keyboard are my only real issues now.

Thoughts?

If the screen gets dirty, use iKlear. It is used by AppleCare and cleans pretty well. Its in the Apple Store and online.

are you talking about the pouch that it comes in? cause that's not microfiber...

No, there's a little cloth that came with mine that feels like suede. It's microfiber.

Do you not know what I'm talking about?

My macbook came with a black microfiber cloth too, even has an apple logo on it. Came all folded in a piece of plastic real nice ...

That's the thing I use to wipe down my 'puter, every day...

Just leave it in this box it shipped in... :D

Man, I thought I ended this thread. I just wanted some product recommendations. You guys are all so cute with your sarcastic responses. Your mom's must all think you're so funny.

Ouch, glad you posted that before I gave my comment.

Seriously, I always intend to keep something clean and shiny but after a few months the novelty wears off and I start getting over it and it ends up looking used and abused. Thats just how it is.

Well, this laptop cost too much for me to just "let it go", plus it's a really nice looking machine and to me that's about 25% of Apple's appeal anyway.

That will change one day... you'll treat it differently in a year or two.

I've never needed any product to keep it clean, beyond the cloth when idiot friends think they have to touch the screen before I can notice something they're pointing at.

Face it, it's GONNA get the odd scuff, it's the nature of a portable machine. My iPod touch's back got scratched just by being in an empty pocket. My MacBook's no different, even though it goes in a sleeve every time it moves.

And my mom thinks I'm high larious.

My mom thinks I'm dead. But that's just for life insurance purposes...I'll tell her eventually.

I was putting ram in my macbook the other day, requiring me to put it upside down. I stupidly put it down on my plastic laptop pad, which proved to be more abrasive than I thought. Now the top of the macbook is full of rough scratches from me sliding it over the pad while pushing in the ram. You can feel the scratches if you glide your hand over the macbook.

I've come to the conclusion that these scratches are an inevitability. When it starts getting really scratched up, I'll buy some ice creme from Radtech. Google it, you'll find it.

DOH!!!! DOH!!!! DOH!!!!

I thought that it was some kinda funky mouse pad that really didin't work very well so I chucked it.

LMAO
:D

Cheers.

Seriously, just have clean hands and don't touch the screen. That's it. It's not rocket science.

lol - I was thinking the same thing. I handle my black MB every day and it's not plauged with fingerprints. but then again, I do use common sense and I don't go grabbing my MB right after I eat a plateful of BBQ ribs.

again people, common sense here is the key. :p
