Is it okay to do so? Any harm towards the battery or the long term performance of the phone? Thanks in advance for opinions.

Won't do any harm, but why? Stuff will just generally run slower, especially networks; you won't get your mail through unless manually fetching, iMessage may take longer than usual...

For better battery life? I use outlook anyway because apple mail doesn't support push for gmail. I haven't noticed anything slow or iMessage being slow.

Yeah, iOS still runs really well on Low Power Mode... but if you've got a 6S or 7, I just feel you won't be getting the full benefit of that delicious hardware.

It's your prerogative of course; who am I to argue with the Captain of the Enterprise? I guess your question was if it'd do any damage. I'm happy to confirm it'd be fine! :)

it's like buying a luxury sports car but driving it way below the speed limit...it'll get you from point A to B, save a bunch of gas, and won't damage it. But you're not using it to its full potential, at all.

Unless you are mostly driving it on city streets where you can't go fast anyway, in which case there isn't that much of a downside.

whatever the speed limit is on those city streets, and you're still driving way below that to try to save gas...that's the analogy i'm trying to make.

Despite everyone questioning you on your motives... Short answer is: it won't cause harm, no.

Interested to see if we get the option to toggle the "auto-disable at 80%" off - this isn't the first thread about this exact topic, some people don't need the full power of their phone and prefer the longer battery life, must be annoying to keep enabling that every recharge.

That's the thing the speed limit is low enough on those city streets that in many cases you aren't really driving all that much below it, if at all.

Again, it all depends on what you are doing, of course. But for those that are just making/taking calls, using mail and messaging, browsing the internet, using some apps like weather or camera or sports or social networkig, maybe listening to some music or watching a video, they won't really feel the impact of the lowered performance as most of those things don't really require/need more performance.
