Hello,

New iPhone 15.

Is there any potential problem if I keep the phone connected
to the Charger for long periods, like overnight, even if the phone is fully
charged beforehand ?

Is there some kind of automatic shut off built in ?

Wife is concerned about the battery (Li ?) starting a fie if left connectd
after being fully charged.

Thanks,
Bob

Your wife's concerns were valid 30 years ago, but technology has moved on quite a bit since then, both with regards to the materials used in batteries, and the 'intelligence' they have to prevent over-charging.
My iPad 9 sits on a Lightning charging dock 24/7 and never over-charges. The iPhones are no different.

If you leave it plugged in all the time, in theory that's not great for battery life long-term... but even if that's true, it'll be years before it's a problem. But other than that, no, there aren't any issues to worry about; lithium-ion batteries are only fire hazards if they get punctured.

It’s not dangerous. Nothing will catch fire, but always keeping it plugged in puts.more wear on the battery.

When iPhone becomes fully charged, the charger shuts off completely. Your battery status will stay at 100% but the battery will slowly discharge normally several percentage points before the charger turns on again.
