Other Keeping Xs Max until there's 5G

I’m keeping my iPhone 8 Plus until the newer iPhone is free.
If the new iPhones supported 5G how long do you think it would be before you could even utilize it?

If I upgrade now then I would have to upgrade next year to have 5G. Now that's if Apple launches a 5G phone next year.
In all seriousness, yes 5G may be in your area in that time frame, but it's still in a very primitive state. Range, quality of service, ability to work indoors, etc. all need improvement at this point. Apple has a history of waiting until technology has matured before they go all in. Can't blame them for that. But as to your original post, the Max is and will be great phone for some time now.

Yup. Once iPhones are 5G, the complaint will be they can't time travel yet

^ This so much. I think people want it because it's there. It's all about obsessing over spec numbers instead of having a use for it. Just like the whole 1080P thing. Why do people feel they must upgrade to the current model? Does something in phone advertising cause people to feel this way? I find this prevalent even with my Android friends that own Samsung phones. Cars introduce new models every year as well. How many people feel compelled to buy the 2020 whatever when they currently drive the 2019 model? If the phone is working for you then why upgrade unless it has a feature you feel is important like 5G maybe.
Yuppers, the advertising definitely plays a big part. Apple makes a spectacle of the new iPhone each year. Some folks even look at the iPhone as a status symbol. Not to mention with financing options available nowadays, it gives more people access to the latest and greatest each year. For me personally, it's my multi use device, I'm on it throughout the day for business and pleasure. I don't drink/smoke/use drugs, but I like my iPhone, it's my vise. I, at the moment, don't care about 5G. At the moment my wife and I don't use 4GB each month so don't need the speed and don't need to pay more for unlimited and pay extra for 5G. Among other things we are in WiFi 95% of time and don't stream.
So it maybe important for some but I'd guess the majority (not those on this forum) wouldn't get much benefit. Time will tell

Ok I guess I stated my original post too vaguely. Let me try again.
None of the improvements Apple announced strongly matter to me. I would enjoy the improvements but they won’t make much difference for me. I do download and upload a lot. So speed would help. So I think 5G would be great for me.
Since there is no iPhone 5G and I do not like Android phones, I might as well wait.
