Hi all. I got an AppleTV for Christmas and finally hooked it up around the end of February...and I've used it cumulatively around 3 hours total.

However, the past couple days, I've had it on playing music on shuffle and it plays for a good two to three minutes before rebooting itself...

I've tried unplugging it, tried factory restore, tried updating the software, thought it was my Airport Express at first, but I updated that firmware as well, and everything on my network is perfect.

Does anyone have a clue as to why I'm having this issue? I've researched a little and all the answers I can find so far are take it back to the Apple store and have them exchange it. Will they exchange it this far into my having it? Especially without a receipt?

Took it to an Apple store...they gave me a new one since it's still under warranty...took it home and it worked just fine for a good two days...then started rebooting AGAIN!!!

Does no one have this issue or know what could be causing it? I'm starting to think it doesn't have anything to do with the unit itself...maybe the power cord? But how?!

:(:confused::(:confused::(:confused::(

My ATV2 has done a lot of rebooting too. I notice it most when I'm watching MLB.TV. No rhyme or reason or pattern. Recently it hasn't done it as much, but I'm stumped as to why not. It loses its connection to my Mini fairly frequently too, most frequently when the Mini has gone to sleep. I have to unplug it to get it to find the Mini. I suspect a network issue is at the bottom of all of this, but that is one area I really try to avoid messing with.

Sorry to offer no help at all, but you aren't alone, and maybe somebody can point us both in the right direction.

Mine seems to it mostly when listening to podcasts. As soon as the screen saver kicks in, the connection is dropped about 9 out of 10 times.

?

WHAT!!! Mine does the same thing

HElp- I have had it reboot while streaming Netflix.

Keeps ReBooting

Is it actually powering down or just loosing the wifi signal? I too have had connection issues but fixed them as follows:

Made sure that the DNS server on the router was correct.

Made sure the DNS address on the ATV2 is correct. It would use the router address if I allowed it to do the settings automatically. Use the manual setting ability.

Replaced our old wireless phones. Discovered by accident that it would drop the connection when the wireless handset was used. Interference with WiFi is a known issue for old wireless phones.

If it is not a WiFi issue then the only thing I can think of is it is over heating. Try moving it away from other heat sources.

mine does the same thing. Had it replaced once and it stopped for awhile, but here we go again.

I will look the overheating issue and perhaps the screen saver being the catalyst. Very very odd.

Yikes. My ATV1 overheated occasionally but didn't think this would be much of an issue w/ the ATV2 since there is no HD. So far it's been great but today is the warmest day we've had since I purchased it (~100 & no A/C). It is a bit warm to the touch. Hope this doesn't become an issue.

Add me to the list. I guess I have to take it back and see what happens with a replacement. I can't even restore it in iTunes which is weird, keeps saying that the download is corrupt and try again later.

I have 4 apple tvs and after a update, they all started to reboot when the screensaver kicked in. I didn't bother to visit the apple store since I knew the chances of all of them being bricked at the same time was really small. I noticed that they were all set to read my iphoto library from my imac which consists of over 10,000 photos. When I changed the screensaver to animals, they never rebooted again. I remember reading on here a while back that the atv2 caches all the photos on the device for the screensaver. Maybe if there are too many pictures, it causes the apple tv to reboot? Either way, I have not experienced this again since changing the screen saver settings.

Thanks! Now that I've read your post, it all makes sense. I probably have too many images for it to handle as well. But, it's still a fail on apple's part to either limit what it caches to a certain number or warn the user.

I hope there's no limit on songs, either. If so, I'm in trouble. :)

Now I only have to deal with that pesky failing to update issue, though it doesn't seem the update is all that important anyway.

Side note: I have never experienced an apple product this buggy. I know it's an exception to the rule, and I'm just surprised by it. I can also think of several ways to improve navigation and the interface without complicating it any further. Oh well, looking forward to ATV3 if there is one!

It's the screensaver

My ATV2 would re-boot sporadically until I changed the screen saver from starting after 5 minutes to starting after 30
