Hi,
I hope someone can help with this strange issue l'm having with my Mac Pro (1,1) with Snow Leopard installed.

The Mac boots up fine but l want to wipe the hard drive and reinstall the OS. I have both the original install discs and a Leopard install disc.

The problem is that when l put in either of those discs and then restart the Mac to install the OS l get the a grey screen asking me to restart the Mac with the following kernal panic information displayed:

panic(cpu 0 caller 0x003A92A1): Unable to find driver for this platform: "ACPI".

I have made a bootable USB stick but when l choose to use this the same problem happens. Annoyingly l can't get anywhere near the install process so l can't do anything like installing the OS on a different partition for example.

I have spent a long time searching round the net to find a solution but nothing seems to work.

Does anyone have any idea why this would be happening and a possible solution?

Here is a dump from the .panic file, contains the Mac spec at the bottom:

You need a minimum 10.5.2 for 8800GT. 10.5.1 won't work and will KP as it does now.
If you have original 7300 or X1900, use it for installation then update your OS to 10.5.8.
Or use higher OS version.

Thanks for the reply.

Oh l see, so that's why the Mac works fine but fails when l try a re-install.

Since it is currently running on 10.6.8 but the installation disc is 10.5.

I assume if l manage to find my copy of Snow Leopard then l should be able to do a re-install off that.

Just wanted to confirm that 666sheep was correct.

I have managed to use Snow Leopard to reinstall the OS.
