Hey guys I have a 2019 16" MBP. Every other time I close my laptop and it sleeps when I open it it'll be off and boot up. I get kernel panics every time now after updating to 10.15.4. Any suggestions? Here's the log:

I am not having it this as frequently, but I, too, am having a strange issue where I'll wake my 16" MBP from sleep and i'll come back to it having restarted on its own.

Similar thread here: https://forums.macrumors.com/thread...checkins-from-com-apple-windowserver.2222878/

My MBP is about 2 weeks old, shipped with 10.15.3 and was immediately updated to 10.15.4 after I set it up. (I'm hopeful that it's a bug in 10.15.4 and not some hardware issue.)

If it makes you feel better, I was on 10.15.3 since I bought this with no issues, this only started happening to me after updating to 10.15.4.

Thanks. Does make me feel better. There's more chatter over on other Catalina bug threads about 10.15.4 issues, so I'm hopeful it gets cleared up via an update.

This is my first macbook pro in a long time with a dedicated GPU... and I'm having flashbacks to the 2010/2011 MacBook Pro GPU debacle. haha

Exactly the same. This only happened after the update. It happens now every time my MBP sleeps

For me the same. It's second day when I open lid in the morning and mac starts to boot.
It must be related to 10.15.4 update that I updated in a few days before but Im not sure with that

I'm in the same situation as you. Received a brand new base i9 last week, came shipped with 10.15.3, immediately upgraded to 10.15.4 upon receiving the laptop, and it's been crashing from sleep ever since.

I have a thread about it here: https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/new-macbook-kernel-panics.2228308/

No it is not caused by power nap. Disabling power nap only reduces frequency of the issue appearing. Those panics happen randomly after sleep. Disabling power nap reduces the amount of sleep wake cycles and thus lowers the chance of hitting a panic.

I noticed you are using Dropbox. I have seen others report that removing Dropbox helped with their panics. Also, try without VMWare, little snitch and see if that helps. Then add back in, one at a time, each one and see the panics are related to any of those. This is what I would do to start with. It’s worth a try.

Thanks for the suggestion. I literally cannot live without any of those things, it sucks because I use them all everyday!

I tried unchecking power nap and i have only got 1 reboot in the past 5 days. MUCH improved

Sounds like a misbehaving driver to me.

Given:
  • Wake from sleep is something hardware vendors often screw up in their drivers in PC land the hardware is the same.
  • AMD's drivers lately have had serious issues
I reckon it would be the AMD display driver, and a macOS update should hopefully fix it.

I was having these kernel panics, when I opened the lid into morning. For the last week I have left the lid up at the end of the night, and turned off the display. No panics so far!

I reckon it would be the AMD display driver, and a macOS update should hopefully fix it.

The issue is a combination of graphics drivers + the AppleGVA framework. Prior to 10.15.4 it only affected machines with AMD cards, mostly Navi. Now it seems more AMD cards are affected and Intel GPUs as well.

The crashes happen randomly if a AppleGVA process is started after sleep. Launching a web browser usually is enough to fire up AppleGVA. AppleGVA is responsible for video decoding / encoding (VideoToolbox).

There are two different panics that can occur after sleep. Either something with the window manager or some power state issues.
