Problem: Computer is too slow

Description:

I am having Macbook Pro (Mid 2012).

I made a hard reset of it and installed fresh copy of Lion OS X by Internet Recovery. After That I updated it to Sierra 10.12 by using bootable USB. Installation of Sierra took almost 10 hours which is really more than enough. And after the complete installation I am not able to perform any action on my macbook since kernal_task is eating up all the CPU. Its varying from 10 to 1000 sometimes.. I have nothing installed in the macbook. No extra applications. The configuration of my Mac is as follows -

MacBook Pro Mid 2012 (MacBookPro9,2) 13"

RAM - 8 GB

HDD - 500GB

Processor - i5 with 2.5 Ghz

==================

I have tried following things with no luck

1. Resetting SMC, PRAM, NVRAM etc,

2. Opened my macbook and cleaned fan dust

3. Tried this fix- http://www.rdoxenham.com/?p=259

I am in trouble with this issue. Any help would be highly appreciated.

Are you getting the beachball effect too? Did you erase the hard drive before installing the OS? Tried booting from an external drive to see if the problem still exists?

Hello Audit13, I erased my derive before rebooting. I tried to boot from USB drive but the progress bar with the apple logo stuck at the end so not able to boot from USB. I installed fresh OS X from internet and then downloaded Sierra from App Store.

Is the computer sluggish when booting and running off an external drive?
When I am trying to boot it from USB drive, it is taking a long and getting stucked with the apple logo and the progress bar only. No progress after that. And when i installed after download from app store it took almost 10-12 hours to install Sierra.

Do you have an external drive that can be loaded with a fresh OS? If yes, do that and see what happens.

It could be a defective hard drive cable that is causing the problem.

If you have an Apple store near you, you can take it there for diagnosis. A failed hard drive cable is common on the 2010 to 2012 13" MBPs and people have reported getting replacements from the Apple store.

Good luck. I hope the solution is as simple as changing the drive cable.
Yes, thanks. ! As per your suggestion I have made an order of drive cable. But I am still surprised that how a damaged drive cable forcing kernal_task to eat up all CPU. No problem in booting. Only the Mac has gon super slow. I want to know the reason for the knowledge base.

Thanks..!
